Converting my Banshee to alcohol
#2
Head cut with small chambers for more compression and a GOOD set of Alky carbs. The carbs are the main factor. A poor design will burn a piston or wash rings. FTZ has perfected their alky carb and booster jet for easy tuning (most alky banshees guys on here have FTZ's). When you get the big carbs, you will need intakes, filters, throttle cable. I would also advise reed cage mods with carbon fiber reeds (works best with alky). You can contact FTZ: ftzracing.com, or 573-334-5439 and they can answer your questions.
You will burn twice as much alky as you do gas. The enormous amount of fuel will wash your rings faster than gas. Expect half the ring life as with gas. If you have a large motor, you might need a fuel pump. They can help you with that too.

If you are going to alky, here is my opinion:
Use the 17cc or small domes. You can't really get to much compression for alcohol. Those carbs are great for gas, but will never be able to effectively atomize the large quantity of fuel that an alky motor requires. This is why I said to check out FTZ's carbs. Go to the website and look at the contraption the install on the back of the flatside alky carbs. This is called the booster jet and it takes care of the problem. You will need new filters to work with whatever new carbs you use.
Take the FMF pipes off and dig a little hole in the backyard and bury them (or sell them to some poor sucker and run with the money). I hate the FMF pipes. If you ride a bike with pro-circuits or toomeys (basically the same pipe, My play bike=PC, TT bike=T-5), you will think the FMF are faster. But if you line the bikes up, the FMF's will get smoked. The FMF have a high narrow powerband that hits hard and revs out quickly. The pro-circuits have a very wide powerband that comes on low and revs to the moon. A set of T-5 or PC will work great with the added lowend that you get from alky. I am looking at the CPI inframes for my TT bike, heard only good things about them.
Also, no one can tell you what jetting to run. Alky is so much more tedious than gas. You just have to do it trial and error.
Feel free to PM me or e-mail at Sandric@go.com with any questions. I have played with alky in a couple of my four-strokes and a couple of friends 2-strokes, and have considered trying it in my banshee.

I will eventually get the porting done but I was just hoping for a boost this weekend. I just bought a house and my wife won't let me spend any money right now. P-WIPPEDAny suggestion on who to do the porting. I thought about FTZ/Kim Muchmore.

I had FTZ do my TT bikes portwork. They are only 20 minutes from me. I used to drive by their shop everyday on my way to college. They make a powerfull engine, and although they are the king of 250R's, other shops may be better on banshees. If I have my play bike ported, I will consider Trinity for it. I am satisfied with FTZ so I might stay with them. As for machine work, FTZ is the best. I have seen bore jobs, head cuts, and other things that have been done elsewhere and FTZ's looks the best.

Do you ever ride up at St Joes? Me and some friends go up and ride and drag race. They have some fast bikes. No alky, just NOS.
