when do the valves need to be adjusted? do they make a ticking sound like a honda? mine is quiet, but when it gets hot(not overheating, but run for awhile at slow speeds) it doesn't want to idle. i've heard of the grizz problems, and was just wondering if the kod has the same ones.
p.s. i know how to adjust the vaves

thanks

I dont think you will ever have to adjust your valves. The kodiak uses hydralic valves. Hydrolic valves get set once by factory ran a bit the reset for life. At least thats what i think.

Honda engine are still using the old solid lifters that need adjustment same as the grissly 600.

Im not 100% so maybe a quick call to the dealer is in order. All i can say is i put over 10000km on a kodiak and the engine ran as smooth and noise free as the day i got it. Wich i could say that for the rest of the bike.

well that's a bonus. i use to hate adjusting the valves on atv's. just more work than a bike. what about a plug?? it worked fine, but i overheated it once (i have the '00 model, and the water pump use to leak) now when it warms up sometimes it idles really slow, and once or twice it even stalled. also i notice a very very slight hesitation off idle, mabey i'm just picky, but do you think a plug would help?

You may not need to make an adjustment, but the valves should be checked. They are not hydraulic, they are adjustable.

They factory shop manual says to check at 1 month, and every 6 months there after. A little overboard maybe, but that's what it says.
