I think you need to check out the Arctic Cat 400. It has a choice of solid rear axle or independent rear suspension (awsome ground clearance for this class), selectable 2 or 4 wheel drive, disc brakes all around and hi/lo range in either transmission. As well as other good points. The AC offers more choice, by far than any ATV out there. The price is comparable or better than others. What do you think? Check out the AC forum for more info. Hope I helped. Oh yea it is also a very reliable machine as well.

I'm not sure of the MSRP, maybe around $5200, but it should be comparable. I don't know on the article. If you tell me more about the article I might can help. Seems like I saw where they had an article on the 2x4 '02 model in that mag.

This is something I posted to another thread thought it might help .

You need to tell more about what you are going to do with the quad, but I think you need to add the Arctic Cat 400 to your list. It has a choice of solid rear axle or independent rear suspension (awsome ground clearance for this class), selectable 2 or 4 wheel drive, disc brakes all around and hi/lo range in either transmission. As well as other good points. The AC offers more choice, by far(seven models), than any ATV out there. The price is comparable or better than others. What do you think? Check out the AC forum for more info. Hope I helped. Oh yea it is also a very reliable machine as well.

I am 16 and am not one of those speed freaks I am more of a mudding type of person I love to go threw huge mud holes or deep water and not get stuck and I also don't like the idea of IRS because its more maintenance that I just dont not want...I have heard the big bear is a solid atv if taken care of and thats what I want. I love the idea of haven a low geared atv because my 3wheeler is geared really low and I love it

The ACT rear suspension on the AC 400 is a solid rear axle. Each rear wheel can move up or down like on a truck. This is WAAAAAYYYY better than Honda or Yamaha solid axels. The AC also has hi/lo range giving you five low gears and five hi gears as well as 2 reverse speeds (hi/lo). AC makes a very solid, reliable machine and if they do have a problem the back it up well. Make sure what ever you buy you find a good dealer, this can all the difference in the world, when it comes to satisfaction. AC gives you more bang for the buck. Ask around the AC forum. Remember.... Good Dealer.
Good luck!

For the type of riding you describe, you should really like the Big Bear. It has a lot of torque and a very low first gear, though it is not fast.

The good thing is there is not much to tear up on it. It is nearly bullet proof.

You may want to check into an Eiger 5sp. It is cheaper then the BB and has high/low range and is faster. Full skid plates underneath as well. Mines been great so far but the BB is a solid quad also, just more of a workhorse with not much top end. When I ride a buddies of mine, I'm always looking for another gear and there is none. But it is reliable though...
