hill climbing

Hello,
I am wondering if a 4x4 willclimb a hill better than a 2 wheel drive sport quad. If so, is it a big difference.I was looking into warriors, but I have noticed the wolverine, so I am curious. Also, can you drive these four stroke 4x4 atv's on country roads for several miles or will that wear out the four wheel drive parts?
Thanks in advance
Steve

Hiya Cityboy,
I don't believe there would be any argument that a 4x4 will climb a hill easier. Especially in slippery conditions. You can still throw in the rider skill factor and mental status.
I've followed many a 4x4's down country roads all day long. Typically they wear no worse than a 2 wheel drive. Just more expensive to fix and maintain when they do.
Generally a sport quad like the Warrior will handle better, and be easier to go fast. The 4x4 like the Wolverine will climb better, pull better, get through the mud holes easier.

For hillclimbing - it depends on the hills. For slower and more technical hills the 4x4s are the way to go. For fast smooth hills a powerful 2x4 will be better (Banshee, Raptor, DS650, etc). Since you are in Ohio I would imagine your hills are the 4x4 variety.

We ride country back roads just east of buckeye lake.We also have certail places we can ride on all the way down to perry apv area, so we stop by as we go along. We usuall do this in late fall/winter late in the evening up into the night so that people dont get angry with the noise because the houses are all shut up. This sure beats sitting at home when that crappy dec-march weather leaves you w/ not much at all to do.

Hey there. My friend has a Kodiak 400 with Black Water ITP tires on it. We went to a local gravel pit and he seemed tobe getting stuck easier than I was with the banshee. The hills were mostly sand and I had stock tires. But I think it was mostly due to the huge weight of the Kodiak compared to the Banshee. My friend was on my 250sx 3 wheeler and he was climbing as good (if not better) than that Kodiak. But in mud, I know that the Kodiak with those tires on it, will out do anything.

I can't think of a single hill that my Kodiak climbs better than the Raptor. I have some hills that the Kodiak can't make it up that the Raptor can though. The Kodiak is so heavy that once you get too steep, you are fighting the weight issue. The front wheels don't offer much traction since on a steep hill there isn't enough weight on them (the weight gets transferred to the rear tires).
The Kodiak will pull itself over logs and rocks though.
