How many of you guys have had the intake boots [between the carb and the engine] crack and needed replacing once the boot sucks air from the cracks???
This is a problem that I have noticed in the last few years and I was wondering exactly how wide spread the problem was by asking here in the forum.
This applies to ALL Yamaha ATVs, sport models and utility models.
[Not to be confused with the "carbs blowing out of the boots" problem experienced by Raptor owners]

My 87 Warrior had that problem after it sat in a field with no carb on it for about 4 years. Other than that, I've never heard of it.

I recently took one of the Raptors down for trany problem and the boots you speak of had cracks in them. The other two Raptors do not have cracks and we run them all on the same gas. I thought it was strange too. Could be some bad QC at yamaha in the mfg process. I did some port matching on the cracked boots and the cracks did not go all the way through so it does not appear that air was leaking in.

Knowsalot,
while not having a yammy ATV, this is a common problem after a while on the Yammy Star line of bikes,
along with the spark plug boots..plan on having these replaced before the extended warranty runs out..they will make it fine on the normal warranty, but are pricey to replace..
Tony O, or Monty LeFleur at Yamaha Sportscenter may be able to give a better insight into it, as he sees a LOT of star bikes..
so it may be more of a problem than thought if it goes over into bikes & ATV'S..
here is Tony's phone #1-800-yamaha(zero)

My warrior did it, I attribute it to the fact that the motor mounts had busted up top and the front was loose. put alot of stress on that boot.
RIP Dear Friend
I am going to go look at my boots right now.
They shake a lot.
It's kinda like the shaking that occurs when a female jumps her Quad. I hope the shaking with my Raptor boots is that same type of good shaking.

Chet,
How did those boots look??....LOL
Surveyor,
I have also noticed the boot problem with the Star lineup. After those plus the high ammount of boot problems on the ATVs, I just wanted to see just how many were having these problems wide spread.
It seems to affect older quads back from the '80s up to current made models. I even sold one for a Grizzly 600 last week.

KNOWSALOT,
They had the usual amount of dust on them so I stuck my fingers in my mouth for some fluid material and cleaned the areas of the Raptor boots I could get to and what I could see was Zero Cracks. I also got a high intensity flashlight to have an even better look and still so no cracks.
Thank goodness my Raptor had no cracks. So the shaking has been good for them I guess. Also my carbs have never blown off.
