First service for Big Bear
#1
My Big Bear has 50 miles on it. How many miles should I ride before changing oil and diff. fluids? What all should I do for the first service and do I HAVE to take it to the dealer? They want $130 and I really don't wanna pay that if its just changing fluids and filters. Thanks in advance

I would give it an oil change but I can't believe your dealer wants to charge you $130! they should do it for free if you bought the atv from them...few more days there will be a new 2003 thats right 2003 big bear sitting in the bed of my truck good luck

I was too impatient to wait on the 2003 big bear. I don't think there is any difference though is there? As for the service, is the valve adjustment mandatory? $130 just seems to high. How hard is this to do?

I am notsure if there is a difference except for the black bumper thats all that I know of now...I havent seen the 2003 yet I just went today and gave my deposit and got the vin number the salesmen got it after searching the crates for the big bear lol I though I heard somewhere the the 2003 had LCD displays instead of analog but probably not..it would be nice but analog will satisfy me enough

The valves on mine needed adjusting after about the first 10 hrs. Your clutch will too, but you can do that. You may just need to let them do the stuff the first time in case there are any warranty issues later. Though with a Big Bear, I doubt there will be! That is a bullet-proof quad.

I think the 2003 big bear does have a Digital display on it. And they bumpers are black powder coated, skid plate I think is slightly different too. Price is unchanged from year before so you gotto love that! I wish I was more patient I would have got a 2003, oh well. As for the valve adjustments, and clust adjustment. How hard are these to do? Does anyone know of a write up or anything online about this? I know I sould probably just pay the $130 for the service, but I am a college student and poor! LOL
thanks

The only thing I did with mine is change the oil(about 100 miles) and went to a synthetic. I'll do the filters next time. I can't imagine that it would need a valve adjustment that soon or a clutch at all. I won't be giving my dealer any extra cash for any of that unless I notice a performance problem. Also I didn't see anything in the manual about any required maintence other than the oil change. As far as warranty you've only got six months to worry about anyway.
