'96 - '00 Warrior worth buying used???
#1
Hey do you think a Warrior dating from 1996 - 2000 would be a good quad to buy used, I think the warrior has been basically unchanged for a while and I was wondering how it does with only electric start...is that reliable???

"For awhile" is quite an understatement It is basically the same quad as was introduced in 1986 with just a few cosmetic changes and the recoil starter was dropped. I believe the recoil starter is still available for about $150. I had my 97 Warrior four years until I got a Raptor. I can recall no problems other than having to replace the axle bearings and a battery. Most, if not all, current sport or performance quads have done away with the recoil starter as unnecessary weight.

i bought mine about a year ago and i love it. i have not had any problems with it. It was pretty much in new condition it only had like 16 hrs of riding time put on it. + some after market parts on it. I am glad i bought it, the only problem I have had with it is not finding enough time to ride it. That is why the first guy sold it. I here they are pretty tough machines. And for being sold for more than a decade i think they are pretty good machines. They are quick but you can tell the weight differenc between other quads. but it isn't so bad. they are also good hill climbers. well l8r and good luck.Blaze

I know that the Warrior has low ground clearance (4.9, but does this cause any problems when riding in areas with rocks and objects that could hit it?
and how does the warrior fair in deep mud.( maybye 1 1/2 feet)
and how does it do in snow ........................^
thanks for the help

Hi there,
The warrior is not worth a damn in mud or snow. If you want to ride in that you will need another bike.
I have a Warrior and a Rubicon. The Warrior has been trouble-free with the exception of all the bearings in the rear end and swing arm. This was just due to poor maint. I know there are better, faster, bikes around, but the Warrior has done a good job for me.

I have a warrior and I have never done mud with it, but I can say that it works pretty well even stock in snow. I ride with guys with a 400EX, a mojave and a polaris explorer and I can go farther than them. I've ridden with a guy with a new big bear, and he could go quite a bit farther, but when he got stuck it was hard to get him out because his qud is pretty heavy.

I have to agree w/ earthraper my warrior does not do very good in the mud. In 1.5 feet of mud i usually get stuck about 25 to 30 feet in and need a pull out or get off and push. As far as clearence you want to make sure you get or have aftermarket skids put on. atleast a swingarm. The stock ones are pieces of ****. I can bend them with just my hands. After about a good days of riding my stock skid was about into the rear brake, i put a dg skid on and it is a big difference than stock. I still say it is a good quad for the money and also for a first quad. good luck on what ever you get. My warrior is quite old, the motor is all original never been tore into. It runs great and ive only had problems out of the starter. Just had to clean the brushes and put it back together. I am very happy with this quad, planning on getting a Z400 in the future. The Warrior is a very dependable quad, its years in production are proof of this. They are worth buying, any year IMO.

Personally i have never ridden a warrior but from reading and listening to what people say it is a great quad. Mud wise i would think it would do good. I had a blaster and i made it through 1 foot and prolly 4 or 5 inches. It was modded but still just stay on the gas. The warrior is a tuff and good quad i would recomend it if it fits in with your budget. Good luck
