My Banshee's rear shock seems a bit sluggish on the return to normal height, and if I compress and decompress it, I hear a sucking noise. Maybe this is normal, but it seems a bit sluggish at best.

Any recommendations on what I can do to go through it (web sites with good technical advice, etc.), or is it worth the money to just have a shop redo it for me? Any ideas how much it costs to have it done?

Also, if I get like a 4" extended swing arm, does the rear shock need to be revalved to compensate for the additional leverage?

a basic rebuild should not cost more than 140.00 from a qualified shop but to actually take the shock and do a complete rebuild and get more travel out of it
will run you around 450.00 at TCS(its worth it)
they can bring it up to a competition level...
yes,you have to compensate for the swingarm...

 

Does anyone make a kit that a person could use to do it themselves, or should it be done by a good repair shop? Maybe it requires special tools, not sure.

Also, how can I determine if my shock is ok, or in need of work? Can I add regular air or do I need to add nitrogen? What pressure?

i highly recommend that you let a qualified tech do the shock for you...

If by "sluggish", you're referring to the rebound speed, why not adjust the rebound first before doing anything else? If the compression or general effectiveness of the shock is just tired, check with C T Racing for their rebuild options on a rear shock body in good condition. They can rebuild it to OEM specs or upgrade it. If the reservoir on the Banshee is like the Warrior's, it is a sealed can & not refillable. I'm guessing your friend has too much rebound dialed in for his style if riding, I run about 10 clicks on my Raptor and did on the Warrior also.
