Did anyone see the newscasts today regarding banning ATV use by those under 16Z???

It was shown on NBC, ABC, CBS, etc, etc today at different times.

It had many different "groups" calling for the CPSC to ban use of ATVs for those nder the age of 16.

The CPSC said that it will not do anything until after it's next ATV Assesment Reprt comnes out later on this Fall.

While the press conference interview was being broadcast, there was continuous footage of the "knucklehead" riders with no helmets, 5 year old kids standing on 4x4s in mud 2' deep, and a 400EX rider with no helmet flipping over after attemping a wheelie.

They are wanting a licensing system put into all states that will require ALL ATV purchasers to acquire a license that shows them capable of operating the ATV.

This is all to familiar......remember the 20/20 episode from the mid '80s that caused the rucus the first time????

To make matters even worse.....Right after the segment was aired, they notified the public of a recall on all 2002 Arctic Cat ATVs with a possibility of a ball joint failure and announced that all 2002 Arctic Cat ATV owners stop riding their quads until after the recall was performed.

Just wanted those of you who didn't watch the boob tube today to know what went on today.

What do you guys think who saw the broadcasts?????

I do not agree with no one under 16 should ride, I think that every one under 16 should have to take classes and have a temp license. I did not see it, but i believe it.

just try to tell me that the greenies dont have the media buy the strings. They quoted something like 1700 deaths (minors) due to quads, 1700 compared to what ??? but then again, if it was on the news "It must be true"

I saw it ! I think that the rep from southern MD dirt riders hit the head of the nail- something like "the manufactures are doing there part volutarly and it comes down to the parents watching there kids while there on a ATV."
I agree and if your a parent, dont let you 10 year old on your grizzly with its big wheel kit- or a recon,.. I dont let my 3 year old daughter on my raptor. I would be a F%^Ning moron. They did say they want 16 year old completely banned from riding adult size ATV's. I dont agree with that- most 16 year olds are adult size- they should lower the age to let say 13 year olds- then ban them from riding maybe 350CC and up.

I watched it too, they showed a guy on a three wheeler who rode a wheelie to far back and fell off while they were saying they were outlawed for flipping over to easy. I noticed the recall afterwards also. What a crock.

OK i just turned 16 a couple of months ago, I am 6 foot 190 pounds, I can lift my ds and control it just fine, but I see the problem because there are people my age and older that are a lot smaller. I know a guy that is 22 and he is 5'6" 95 pounds, That would scare me too see him on a ds!!!!
I think that people should get some common since, there would be alot less laws... (and the damn tree huggers they are not helping)

I think it's ridiculous. My kids will always ride. Laws or no laws. They will ride what I feel they are capable of rideing. Not what these fools feel is appropriate.

Our country is just mirroring what's already happened in most European countries. Call them greenies, tree huggers, anti-gunners, democrats, or whatever, the true name for them are socialists. They want to take our country in the same direction as the European countries, who are mostly socialist countries now. They think they need to pass law after law to "protect" us. If even half the laws on the books were enforced, you couldn't walk down the street without spending a night in jail. I think if someone is too stupid to not walk out into oncoming traffic, then the laws of natural selection are taking place, and the rest of us are better off. The ATV community has grown a lot in numbers again. If we were to get organized, like an NRA for ATV'rs, then we would be a very powerful lobby to contend with. Obviously, one, or many, of the socialist groups see this, and are starting a nice defimation campaign using the preferred socialist outlet, the national media, to start limiting our numbers now.

Well, see, now I'm all ****'d off. I think I need to go reload to relax...hehe

Actually the guys pushing for this have more "clout" in the public's eyes than the lawyers from the 1980s.

It's being pushed by the American Society of Pediatrics and another group that I am not that familiar with, but had something to do with "trails and freedom".......probally a sub of the Sierra Club for all I know.

This for real. This same group already has a proposed law that has been in a house committee since last summer. It hasn't been on their priority list since the events of Sept.11

I think we will all being seeing more on this issue in the coming months.
