Brakes??

Can mud get in your brakes? I have a Yamaha Timberwolf 250 4x4 and my brakes are sticking when I apply them. They eventually release after riding about ten feet but they still squeak like their sticking. I tried backing them off on the lugnut in the back but then they dont stick but I dont have any brakes. I bought a new brake cable thinking mine was stretched but that did not help it any. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

If you take the drum off you will more than likely find that the brake pads have come loose from the brake shoes. Yamahas brakes suck, buy aftermarket brakes. Cost half as much as yamaha brakes as well. A word of advice don't ride your atv until you find out if this is your problem, because it can lock up the brake. Since yours is a 4x4 it will lock up all 4 wheels possibley sending you over the bars trust me I speak from experience.

Yes your right Yamaha's brakes suck! when i pulled my front drums off here a while back one of pads came off the shoe. mud can get into the brakes but not very easily. they have a double seal which means to me the seal what to lips to seal out mud. my front brakes always stuck on mine, so i removed them for a while until i got new ones, well when i did that, i pretty much lost my rear brakes also and the front and rear arnt even hooked together. dont know how it happened but now to slow down i must downshift. by the way my Timberwolf is a 95 yellow 2Wd. Hopes this helps u out some.
