warrior rev limiter
#1
Is there any way to do something with the rev limiter on my 2000 warrior? I just bought this machine this week. But right when it starts making good power the rev limiter kills it.
What year did they start using these because all of my other quads did not have them. The warrior has an fmf powercore 4 pipe and a k&n air filter. I really like the size of this warrior as opposed to my 250x,200sx,and 300ex. As you can see this is my first yamaha, so I hope it does me well.
Thanks Steve

There is nothing you can do to the rev limiter if there is one. I used to believe there was and now do not know for sure. There certianly is one for reverse. One for OverRPM ??. I've read and been told by Yamaha dealers that there are and are not rev limiters in the Warrior. If it exists it would be internal to the CDI, either an aftermarket CDI or reprogramming the CDI is what would take to change it. Neither is available that I am aware of. My Warrior used to cut out at High RPM. It does not do it now, what I thought was a rev limiiter might have been valve float. ???

Maniac, you are correct. The valve train set up on the Warrior does not like sustained hi rpm running, and will cause valve float, and power will drop off.The design of the head is also a big bottleneck, lots of extra metal in the way of good flow. The 2 best things to do to get the rpms out of a Warrior, replace the valve springs(hey, put in a cam while you're at it) and have the head ported out.My Wolverine has the exact same engine, with stiffer springs and porting,I can rev it up real high, keeps the power coming on big hill climbs or long stretches of trail. Also, cityboy, have you rejetted with your pipe/filter combo? 4 strokes don't like to be rich on the main,it will cause skipping on the top end,may seem like a rev limiter kicking in.Check your plug, try dropping 1 size and see if it is better/worse. Just something to think about.
