I have heard of a few cases of the Raptor chain breaking. I was wondering if it is possible to switch the chain, and sprockets to a 530 size, instead of a 520. The 530 size, is like the massive chain on the DS650. Does anyone make 530 sprockets for a Raptor, I could easily get the chain from the local Bomb dealer. Could I get a DS650 530 sprocket, and have it drilled to fit a Raptor?

What you need to do is call D.I.D and get a 520 chain made for the Raptor.
I believe it is called a 520ATV. this chain is the only one that will hold up to the tork of the Raptor.
I believe Rocky Mountain Atv is the only dealer that carries that chain.
I found out all this from calling D.I.D myself after all the problems I had.

Someone, like Sidewinder, that makes custom sprockets should be able to do it.

Maybe if you start to break chains, I haven't, but it adds alot of centrifical(sp?) weight. It would be something to look into, depends on the price, sounds high.

Adam, you are still looking at my old '02 Raptor? I broke 2 chains on it and never broke a chain on anything else ever. When you bottom it out the chain gets very tight and has broke twice from huge MX air. It was adjusted properly also, then I started running it a little bit looser but it would then come off in the air. Just stay away from the 50+ footers and you should be fine. Oh, by the way the second chain I broke was a high dollar Sidewinder that was supposed to be 10 times stronger than stock. Yamaha warranteed and replaced rear carrier, chain etc. so all is fresh and Scott{new owner} can't get it off the ground so you know it's still fresh.

BartlettRacing,

Does the DID520 ATV chain have a master link or is it continuous like the stock chain? It would be nice to have a chain with a master link, but I'm worried about the master link being a weak point and breaking. Who's sprockets do you use/recommend?

What about Sidewinder chains? Do they have a master link?

klj...all aftermarket chains should have a master link. I just cut my stocker off. It is VERY hard to break a chain. They can withstand serious pressure, and 95% of people probably won't ever break a chain. I drag race a bunch, and I've run RK, Renthal, and DID chains with no problems. Granted...I don't do doubles or anything...but you would think dumping the clutch every race would put some serious stress on a chain

Adam- buy the quad first, then think about the mods. A jet kit/slip-on will leave most DS's sucking exhaust. You are putting the cart in front of the horse here.

Well, you see, we will be picking up the quad tomorrow. We would have picked it up last weekend, but Scott wasn't home. You're right, I do need a pipe, and Jet kit, but I'm trying to find something cheap.

Rod, yeah, I hope you didn't damage my quad too bad, or I'm going to make you pay for the damages, lol.
