My friend borrowed my aluminum bi-fold ramp for the weekend and left me with having to load my Warrior w/ 2 wooden planks.(note to all: strap the son's a b's to the truck) Half way up the ramp it stalled 'cause I was too impatient to warm it up. So there I was stuck w/ the front tires on the back of my new F250. I figured restart it and continue onto the truck. Not realizing that when I let the clutch out it would shoot the planks out at an amazing speed, thus leaving me teetering on the edge of the tailgate anticipating the inevitable consequences. Needless to say, $80.00 Renthal Bars, $75.00 used steering stem, and countless "I told you so's" from the girlfriend, I had learned my lesson!!!!!

I've done well on loading my riding lawn tractor into the back of my dad's truck. It went like this:
the front of the truck was pointed up my driveway(pretty steep)
i put two ramps up which made it really steep
i got lined up and went for it
got the front wheels into the bed of the truck
then the rear wheels started spinning causing ramps to move around
I jabbed in the clutch/brake
THEN started going off the side so i dropped the clutch(not sure why)
causing the tractor to flip end over end onto pavement with me under it
only thing that happened was a small dent in the hood and a bump on head

I have never done it myself, but I was teaching a friend of mine how to load a wolverine he had just bought into the back of his Mitsu Mighty Max w/a 3 inch lift. All was going well but he was kinda of scared and was standing on the peg w/1 leg and had the other drapped over the rear rack.Well about that time the cables that held the tailgate(instead of hinges) broke!! The rear wheels of the quad dropped to the ground like a rock! The clincher was that his shin was on the rear rack when this happened, needless to say he was rolling on the gound holding his leg and me being a true friend was laughing my butt off! I convinced him that he wasnt hurt and told him to walk it off-come to find out a year or so later he went in for some sort of exam and the doctor got to looking at his leg and said that it had been broken!!Boy did I feel like a horses ***!!At least we can laugh about it now though!
Rest up so you can do it again!!-----Mark

I just built some sweet ramps to go on my ford 450 super duty, the ramps are 21 inch wide and 10 feet long I made them out of 2X6X10's and sheeted them with 1/2 inch 3 ply plywood" I also ran 2x6 lumber through out this to tighten up the streght! I tied them into the truck with 1/4 inch thick angle iron. Now all that is needed is to remove my upper bar on the top so that I can drive directly in ( this is my ladder rack)! They are very heavy, I think my second set will be made out of 2x2' or 2x3's to lighten the load these will be alright!

I have a Dodge Ram and it feels like I need to drive up a wall to get my quad into the back! I haven't lost it yet but I've felt it a few times. Now, I make sure that when I load/unload, there is a slope of some sort. This significantly cuts the ramp angle.

I think the most important thing we all need to take from this thread is to wear our helmet, not one single person in here planned any of the boneheaded stunts mentioned,it may look goofy putting a lid on for 5 seconds to go up a ramp but WHAT IF ?????

Yes, I would not have stitches if I would have left the lid on for an extra 2 minutes. That is the first question everyone asked me. "Did you wear your helmet?" and I say, "No, I took it off when I got to the truck". It just makes me feel stupid!

I've not had any loading accidents but I did have an old Yamaha Moto4 get loose while in the back of my old Dakota and take out the rear glass. Doing about 55 and hadn't noticed it was loose, went to slow down for a curve and next heard a horrific crash along with shards of glass everywhere. Scared the crap out of me.
