Raptor problems

I think the valves need adjusted, but i'm not sure. It will start with the choke on, but doesn't like to run with it off. When you give it gas it's not very responsive. And if you give it too much gas it backfires real bad and blows the carb boots off and dies. What do you guys think?
EDIT: this thing is totally stock, and its been awhile since the valves have been messed with.

Sounds to me like your running lean and are compensating for it by running it with the choke on in turn making it run rich< I've come to find out that the 01 raptors that are running rich tend to blow the boots of the carbs more than one that has proper jetting.
Remember just because it's stock dosen't mean the jetting is right.
Hope this helps

I had the same sputtering problem with mine. It would start fine when cold but run a little rough until I got it warmed up (100 yards) after that it would die when given gas and would run a little better with some choke. I put on a new plug and it fixed it. First time I ever had a plug go bad prematurely on a 4 stroke.
(parking brake sensor has long been gone on mine)
