What material should I use? I need the lightest stuff possible, but I still need it to be strong. I cannot weld aluminum. I was going to use 1in round steel.

Adam- forget the wheelie bar until after you have some HP.

Yea then you'll know you need a wheelie bar when you end up on your a$$!! LOL!!

I don't have a monster HP Raptor (ask 14mins he'll tell ya) But I never went to the drag strip without the wheelie bar!!

I used 3/4" .060 mild steel tube & it's held up fine after hundreds of launches. I guess you could use chromemolly to save a little weight.

Go to My Web site for some shots of my wheelie bar. I got a good closeup of the mounts too.

I've been thinking about building some wheelie bars to sell, How much would people pay for one?

Well you try launching a piped Raptor with Extreme Haulers at WOT without a wheelie bar!!

I don't want to end up on my a$$ 5' from the starting line!!! LOL!!
When you can launch at WOT without worrying about the front end coming up & over you get a faster Reaction time & more consistant ET's.

moose...I was launching like that in little sahara all day long. You just have to know how to control the bike I can keep it down with or without the wheelie bar.

I agree Moose. I couldn't imagine WOT starts without mine, even though it looks like a POS.

You should be able to get good $ for them. Make one, add cost of materials and time, then add a little to that then put it on ebay.
Who knows you might be able to retire.

Moose- i would be interested in one. So far i have made it with out one and launch harder than most can. It is not the end all mother of items though. It would be of more use at Atoka or a place like that. It is overkill in a regular riding area. I pretty much dump the clutch at 6000 rpm's now.

Moose- i see the benifit that the bar gives you, but that will not apply to all.

When i have to change tire, add a wheelie bar, strut this and that the fun starts leaving. Now if i am headed to Atoka i will roll off the trailer ready with the above. But that is what i came for, not 6 drags and then all afternoon of trailriding.

Back to adam- A wheelie bar with your mods will not get you much at my house, you would be better off with a cam or something else. The drag stip has been set to where a wheelie bar was not abosutlety needed.

Might wanna be saving that money to replace your clutch and first or second gear, which ever you use. Start anything off WOT and youll have a wheelie problem. On the serious side though, if i wanted to make a light weight, strong, weldable wheelie bar I would either use steel tubing like you said or use some stout angle iron then drill large evenly spaced holes in the flat sections. Not sure which one would be stronger, but angles give good strength and it would look sweet powdercoated. One thing to ponder though, if you let the front wheels float 1 inch above the ground you reduce drag and lower your time, but you cant steer either.
