I had a couple of questions about Glamis.
How do you pronounce it? I have only seen it written never spoken.

Whats the temp, high and low, in January?

Is there any lodging near by or do you just have to stay in the dunes?

What about food, how close is it?

If you park in the sand what kind of chance do you have of getting stuck?

Is there power anywhere that you amp?
Thanks

How do you pronounce it? Glamis...Glam=(like ham) is=(like hiss)

Whats the temp, high and low, in January? Average high is 69* average low is 42*

Is there any lodging near by or do you just have to stay in the dunes? Brawley Inn - Brawley CA.

What about food, how close is it? Glamis Store is right there but expensive. Boardmanville is right there for burgers and beers at lunch. There is a roach coach that goes up and down Gecko too. And Sweet Maries has food I think (by the ranger station) You can go to Brawley for anything you need which is 30 miles west of Glamis. Phoenix guys can tell you the best place to shop in Blyth East of Glmais on your way in. I pack the coolers in Brawley at Vons (there is now a new one) on my way in. You can never have too much beer, ice, fire wood, or fuel

If you park in the sand what kind of chance do you have of getting stuck? Good chance if you venture too far off Gecko Road. My rule is that if there is a slope of any kind, air down. The cement flats is just west of Gecko/ranger station. Never camped anywhere other than off Gecko.

Is there power anywhere that you camp? No

if you're driving a 2WD, you will most likely get stuck if you get off the pavement at all. especially the shoulders.. directly off the pavement of gecko can be done, to an extent, but i would plan on staying on pavement! if not, bring extra beer for payment when you have to ask a 4WD to pull you out.

you can travel past gecko road till you hit the glamis store.. make a right and you can park in the washes.. its hardpack dirt flats which border the small dunes. its a little farther away from teh action but quieter than parking on gecko road

Dont forget vender flats guys!!! Vender flats is a about a football field long with venders each side of the "road" with everything from Breakfast/lunch/BBQ (mmmmmm Hog Heaven) to parts for your quads to tire shops to buggie parts. Yuma is also a option to stay @. Yuma is about 40 miles away,Brawley 30 miles. The washsare not bad , thats where alot of motor homes camp due to weight, its all common sense,if theres no one parked in a a rea you want to go there prob a reason but dont worry theres even a tow truck or the occasional 4X4 to give you a pull if needed.
