Kodiak hot engine light coming on

Check to see if it is leaking. Is the coolant tank low or empty? It will leak on the left side at the floorboard. You can see the pump but have to get on your knees and look up between the floorboard and engine. Or take the lower side panel off. It has 3 bolts holding it on. Your dads Kodiak might have the first design water pump like mine did. It is very common for them to leak. Mine leaked twice before the dealer finally replaced it with the new design pump. It was covered under warranty. Mine went out before the first year was up. The new pump will have a clear plastic tube hanging down from the weep hole. I have a picture of it in my photos. I think its in my pic 2 album but not sure. I have not heard of a new pump leaking. Also I have seen the old pump on some 2001 models on the dealer floor. Hope this helps.

Stormy,
I have an 01 Kodiak and I had the same problem. First check to see if your thermal link is connected. You can find it on the right side of the engine behind the spark plug. Mine came unpluged which would not cause a problem but it grounded to the hot exhaust after the insulation melted. This caused the light to come on now and then as it touched the metal exhaust. I hope your problem is this simple, good luck.
