CFM Raptor airbox?

Thats a good looking box but to me it looks like it has an air restriction when it comes
from the air filter hole to the two smaller holes... Thats my opinion, I really like it if the
air filter was right in front of the two holes. I think I am going to get me some aluminum
pipe the same size as my induction tubes and put two K&N air filters on with outerwears
and remove the lid and drill out some 1 inch holes on the bottom of the air box.
I think that would let the most air in. I know I am trying to save a buck, I just dont think
it would be worth it to me for that box but thats me.

There is no kit for K&N clamp ons, you have to make one yourself. I used the front of my airbox and the Pto Design flange I already had on it and put two filters on the flange and cut the rest of the box from around it. This set-up help 100%. I wouldn't do it if you ever ride in or around water but thats your call.

danmc, I was like you, not sure about running with out a lid. But I decided to go for it, and I'm glad I did. I just went down to my dealer and purchased an aluminum air box from them and had them install it and re-jet. I wanted to keep everything under warranty. I thought it was a PPD, but turns out it was a UMI. I guess I should up-date my sig. Anyway, the performance is awesome, and the piece of mind it gives you is well worth what you pay. The aluminum air box is bigger, providing better airflow around the filter. Have you seen pictures of the Pro Design filter squeezed into a stock air box? There's no room, no wonder there is a problem with turbulence. The aluminum air box that I bought has dual intake runners just like the Pro Design adapter, which is designed to match the Raptor's dual carb's and intake boots. This is different than the Graydon aluminum box that has one large whole for the filter to clamp to, and then two holes that go into the dual carb boots of the Raptor. The Graydon air box is designed that way to allow you to run a TRX 250R filter rather than a Pro Design. That is the only reason that it has a single opening for the air filter, that then must transition into two inlets for the Raptor's dual intakes. I agree with you in that it looks like that design would cause turbulence and restrict airflow. My aluminum air box allows a Pro Design filter to clamp right on to the air box so that you will not have to worry about your filter any more. Also, after running it for about 10 hours now, I haven't noticed it getting any dirtier than when I ran with the lid on and snorkel removed. I am very happy with the aluminum air box, and I think you will be to. I ride in the desert, with lots of dust, no problems so far. I think you will be happy with any aluminum air box that you may buy, don't worry to much about what the brand name is, just get the one that looks like it will work the best to you. Good luck with your decision.
