Default How do Raptors do in racing?

Last week I caught the last 15 minutes of the GNCC on the Outdoor life channel and was checking out the quads. I saw lots of 250R's, 400EX's, some Cannondales and Z400's but I didn't notice any Raptors. Maybe I just watched at a bad time. I remember when the Raptor first came out they were being set up by the mags for desert racing but I have not seen a whole lot of info since then.

GNCC limit is 440cc except for the open class.

ModdedX, in the GNC the limit is 440cc, in the GNCC you can race the Raptor in just about any of the classes.
rockrider, I think that since the Raptor is a little to tippy, less and less people use them in the GNCC's, which is mostly woods riding.

GNCC Pro-Production class has no limit, you can run 2 strokes if you want, that means you could run a banshee or 660 or the new 700cc KAW as long as it is in a production frame. Most of the top 400EX quads are 500cc in that class so there are some alowances.

Fact is the raptor has not had a great deal of success in racing yet. Why I have no idea I would think a swap to wider a-arms would put it above most other quads but it has not. Yes there are some local guys that may be doing well. Here you will not see a Raptor at the MX track there were afew at first but they don't show up anymore.

How can the Raptor run in the 440cc class? In all my racing days, the bike with more cc's than the class limit wen to the open class or the class above!

I forgot about that Pro-Production class. I am not sued to seeing that.. But is the regular 4 stroke class limited to 440? And do they still have open?

Whats the GNCC website? I haven't been there in a while, guess I better freshen up!

Daimon - I've noticed the exact same thing. You'll see a few Raptors show up to race in the novice class a couple of times and then you'll never see them again. The ones I have seen didn't do any good either. The thing feels like a dirtbike w/ 4 wheels and the weight is kind of up high on the quad and I HEAR they aren't that comfortable in the air.

I think if you widened and lowered them, they would make a great competitor! Have these ones you have seen locally been modded?

I do not have a ton of time on one but at 6'4" I am comfortable on it, It flys well and you can move it in the air but it likes to be landed corectly. If you hit one rear first it will pitch you pretty bad, also it comes out the hole great but you need to slow way down for the turn or it will tip then as you get on the power it does not like to step out it lifts the front and you get shoved to the outside so you get even more cautious in the turn and that is where you just get eaten up.

With a 4" wider front and zero preload shock and good tires I would think it would rip at the track.

OH there is an open class but it is not a pro class. The pro class has a limit of 440cc and I think 300cc for 2 strokes but I am not sure on the 2 stroke thing. Not many people race the pro class on a 4 stroke they will not hold up to that many hours of abuse.
