Default Raptor starter problem

Did a search and it is definitely the starter one-way assembly. Any one know which gears usually go bad along with this. There are two idler gears shown in the on-line parts finder. I would like to order what I need before tearing it apart.

5LP-15517-00-00 and 1VJ-15512-00-00.

My girlfriend has nicknamed my Raptor "1 Ride". You get to ride it once and then back to fixing it. I have to admit this Raptor takes more maintenance than the Kodiak and both 400exs combined. I like this one but definitely wouldn't buy another.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess I will pull it apart first. Hopefully the gears aren't ruined. I rode for a whole day with the starter messed up. I hate to think what else might have gotten damaged.

Thanks for the website address. It is tjpartsxpress.com

Are these starter problems only on the 2001 models. Or are they on all of them.

I thought it was only the 2001s that had that problem. Didnt they up grade the one way bearing assembly for 2002.

Well, I just pulled it all apart and I am lucky. No metal shavings in the case and all the gears look perfect.

I plan to order the one-way and gaskets as soon as I am done typing this.

I will adjust the carb too. I read enough doing a search on this topic that I am worried that I am running a little lean. I hear some popping when slowing down most of the time. I guess the dealer didn't get it adjusted right after I installed the exhaust and opened on the airbox.

Thanks again for all the help.

Spoke too soon. How do you get the bolt off that holds the flywheel? I can't stop it from spinning. I don't want to buy the sheave tool if possible.

I tried putting it in gear and holding the brakes. Still couldn't get it loose. Is it a lefty loosee type of bolt?
