Raptor starter problem - more help requested
RaptorBoy673,
Yes if feels like it is spinning freely or spinning too long before catching. I've heard the problem stems from backfiring when trying to start your quad. Make sure your carbs are adjusted properly so you don't hear a popping from your exhaust when slowing down. Other than that, I don't think there is a fix per se.
I never worried about the problem as I felt it failing over the last 10 rides or so since I didn't realize the one-way bearing was inside the engine case. Next time, I won't wait so long to fix it when it starts going bad. I lucked out since my gears are all perfect. Many others have ended up with metal shavings in the engine due to the gears failing.
I have a huge number of hours on my quad and have had it almost two years now. I can live with this given the fun factor. I am way more upset of the tranny problem since I doubt this is a repair I will tackle on my own.
Thanks for the tips on getting the bolt off. I have an air compressor so I guess I might breakdown and buy the air tool if the leather belt trick doesn't work. Hopefully it does so I can properly torque the nut during reassembly.
It seems like a bendix solution would work better but I am sure the engineers have tested the amount for force that is generated on a backfire and realize that the bendix gear would get ripped apart.
