Default Seized Rod Bearing in my Warrior, What To Do??

Well, we had a great riding weekend until last night on the way back to camp. My sons Warrior started clanking horribly, so he shut it down and waited for me to find him.

The engine was seized when I got there, so I was anxious to take it apart when we got home. Tonight I tore it down, and the lower rod bearings were in pieces and seized to the crank. I can get it to move slightly, but it is pretty obvious that the crank is probably toast, as well as the rod. I honestly thought that it had dropped a valve or something, so I was totally surprised when I saw that the bottom end had bitten it.

Is this something that happens to the Warrior engines? I just changed the oil and filter only 3 or 4 rides ago, so it wasn't a lubrication issue.

Anyone know where I can get a good used engine(ebay is an obvious place), or do you think that it is worth it to rebuild this one?

Thanks,
Dean

Aren't the crank parts all available seperately? Just rebuild the crank. Pin, bearing, rod, thrust washers. About 120 bucks in parts plus gaskets, the way I look at it. plus labor of course.

Wow, I had no idea that the parts were that cheap. I have rebuilt many engines, but have never had one of these cases split.... is it difficult? I have the Clymer for it, plus good mechanical skills, so I imagine it shouldn't be too difficult.

Anyone know of a good site with good info. on a bottom end rebuild? Any other opinions on what I should do? The cylinder looks fine, and the only other problem we ever had was that the starter clanks as it cranks.

Thanks,
Dean

the actual crank rebuilding itself, takes special tools and presses. Send that out, other than that, it's all straight forward. Any shop that rebuilds two-stroke cranks, should be able to do that one.

The starter is just a Warrior thing, they all do it. If you need used parts check East Coast Atv, I can't remember the web addy right now but it should be in any of the rags.

So, the only other special tool that I should need is a flywheel puller, correct?

Sounds easy enough, it's the tranny that always makes me a little leary of just taking stuff apart.

Does anyone know, are there side shims for crankshaft side play, do you have to set any bearing pre-load, etc.?

Thanks,
Dean
