The direct shifter that I have is a one peice design and it can be found on ebay everyday. It is steel not aluminum. It was $35.
It makes shifting alot smoother and less notchy. There is a slightly longer throw than the linkage style but not much. You WILL get used to it rather quickly and I believe that you will like the difference. Finding Neutral is alot easier as well.
Most that have tried the direct shifter do come to like them.

I use the Pro-Design power shifter & it also is a direct 'no link' set up. It works just as TOID say's slightly longer shift throw, but more positive shifts and much easier to find neutral!! I love mine!![img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-cool.gif[/img]

yeah i have an 01 and am not too crazy about the shift ratios, tho i'm used to it. heck, i can beat most quads in reverse!
