on the 02-03 raptors is the 1st, 2nd, 3rd gears spaced good. On my 01 there was a gap between 1st and 2nd and i didnt like that. Do the new ones shift smoothly. Do you recomend buying the raptor over the z400.

so what you are saying is there are no gaps between the gears. and they are spaced very well or. is it just berly noticable.

 

I think they made the change that was needed. The gear splits are spot on compared to the 01's. every thing else feels the same.

 

Well since I had the '01 tranny for 16 months before it "went out" - and now have had the '02 gears in it for about 4 months now, I can attest to this,,,

The newer Raptors with the '02 or newer tranny - is all you would want it to be. The ratios (spacing) and the smoothness (especially when using a direct shifter) is perfect! You won't be dissapointed!!

I don't have a problem with the 01 gear ratios myself. I am just used to it. I have not ridden a 02, 03 Raptor.

When I am on the Raptor I am usually not poking around. The Raptor power is so good in-between 40--55mph its almost scary.
