RaceWarrior350,

After much begging and working for my father in his shop to earn money, I got my first ride in 1969.

The famous Honda Mini Trail 50, 3 speed auto clutch. There is know telling how many miles I put on that machine in one year.

So many good memories. I had a blast. Back then if you were under 16 years of age you could ride on the sidewalks or the edge of the road.

I even did a book report on the Honda in the 8th grade and took it to school and rode it down the hallway. I don't think you could to that now. LOL

I will put the Icon up for that 1969 Honda or the engine of that machine.

wow does that mini trail bring back memories!!! 149 new. first year was a two speed, i believe. i had one sitting in the barn for years......finally found out who owned it new. he drove 200 miles to get it so he could restore it for his kid. it was cool. i just let him have it. the kid reminded me of me, 35 years ago. it was cool.

for me, frist bike was one of thsoe stamped frams yamaha torary valve 80s. i rode it to death! thats was 1966. it probably still hasnt cooled off completely.....

raptor8,

I remember those and if I am not mistaken I believe I have an old Yamaha add from the 60's out on the garage wall with one of those displayed. If I can think about it I will scan it someday and post it.

Those rotary valve motors actually ran pretty good.

My 4th bike had a rotary valve motor.

Picture of my 1972 Kawasaki rotary valve 250

That is not my actual bike but it is a duplicate of what I had back then.

Hmm lets see.... when I was about 2 or 3 I had one of them battery powered 3 wheelers and I rode around in the yard all day every day until the batterys died. Then when I got a little older my dad bought me a retired race go kart from his friend. It was a bored and hoped up 5hp briggs on a home made frame about as tall as one line of this text is off the ground and it had small hard slicks on it. Round and round and round I went. My dad had it tuned so it could only goto half power. Always pissed me off that when he got on it, it seemed to be able to spin the tires and cut donuts. Did I mention since it was so low and had nerf bars it was impossible to flip. Got a lil older and got suicidal on my neighbors RT-180. Then got me a yerf dog fun kart with a 5.5 which i still have and am about to start riding again if I dont get my engine back together soon. I guess ive always liked 4 wheels better than two, most of the time I like a roll cage but it just isint aplicable for tight woods which is all we have around here. Did I mention I removed the governor, vented the air box, installed ram air, and opened up the exhaust on my gokart

Back about 10 years ago, my dad bought me my first dirtbike. A good old 1980 Zuki RM80. I of course at 5 could not handle such a bike, so I crashed it about 100 times the first day I rode it, and never got out of second. I eventually learned to love it, and then I got into a pretty nasty crash and fractured my femur. I didnt ride for about a year after this. Then I got my brothers old 1980 Yz250 when I was 13. I rode that thing to death. I now learned what how fast a 100lb kid could go on a 250cc 2 stroke, that being VERY fast. I soon got respect for the bike, and knew if I rode beyond my limits, it would end up biting my ***. So of course, what do I do? I hit a tree and bust myself up more. At this point, I never wanted to ride again. My friend Aaron is really into quads, and we ride them around at his friends house for a day. Now I was hooked. I decided to get out of moutain biking, sell my bike, and buy a quad. Now, Im here, with my old 87 Shee, and could not be any happier!

Thanks for makin me think of all the memories RaceWarrior!

raptor8,

I just went out and snapped a quick PIC off the wall instead of scanning.

I like what it says. Powerful 80cc 7.7hp engine, quarter mile acceleration 22 seconds, $340.
