Default Help with Raptor pilot Jetting.

Thru some help from a few people here *thanks* it was suggested that my glowing header pipes are from too lean of pilot jets(mine are stock). Its time I do something about this.....now not knowing too much about carberation, I need some more help. I was told to go to 27.5 pilots sound right? Next do I replace both carbs with 27.5's or one or what.

Thanks for all the help,
Mike

Default Help with Raptor pilot Jetting.

while not conversant with raptors, I understand that 2 carbs are feeding a single cylinder..
if you need to richen the pilot jets in a mikuni carb there are 2 ways to do that..
1) swap out the pilot jets(in each carb) with the next larger size..
2) try turning the mix screws out..I know that this sounds real stupid..
but they do have effect out to about 5 turns, at least on the bds 28's on
my yammy street bikes..(v twin & v four- same carbs)
when you change the pilots, I'd suggest going up in increments of 1 size at a time..
I had gone up 2 sizes, & while the bottom end would knock my socks off, it was borderline rich
I ended up going 1 size bigger & alittle more on the miz screws..

of course this is street bike use, not quads..
I'm not a big fan of jet kits where the needle is diffrent taper than stock..it is harder for me to tune..
I know I'll probally get flamed on this..

You do not need to replace your pilots, aftermarket headers are thin walled and will always glow red. Check your plugs. What color are they? White plugs are lean, brown plugs just right, black plugs rich. If you followed the Dynojet kit instruction and you don't have any flat spots or bogging your jetting should be bang on. Playing with your pilots with your mods is most likely unnecessary. Good luck!

Default Help with Raptor pilot Jetting.

In the Dynojet trouble shooting guide it states that,
"Dynojet kits are designed to use the stock pilot jets THIS IS A MUST."

I'm using the stock pilots & DJ146~DJ148 & have had no problems Other than it seems to load up a bit at low speeds (under 1/4 throttle). I think I need to turn the air corrections in a bit to fix that..

Are / have the carbs blowing off and are the headers glowing? Up too 27.5's and the problem should be cured. I run 27.5's and a DJ kit with no probs.
