Default Zilla guy might want Banshee.... need info

Hey Yamaha people, whats up

I had my Zilla at Glamis this weekend (Holloween at Glamis is AWSOME!!!!!!!) and she ran really good.
I love how wide and stable it is, and it is pretty fast... but there is nothing like the scream of a modded Shee up olds/comp.
My LT500 is perfect for double riding though. So much torque to get me and her up hills slowly without scaring her.

Well anyway, to cut though the BS, I think im gonna sell the Zilla and get a Shee.

What year did out with the J-arms?
In california, what is the last year shee that qualifies as a "green sticker" bike? 1997 right?
It seems to me that every single banshee that I see is running good and sounds tight. True? are they as reliable as they seem to be?
How durable are the trannys? Some of them sure seem to put up with a LOT of HP.
When looking for a Banshee, what should I keep an eye out for?
I DO NOT want to get a bike and they have to rebuild it after one month. (has happen to me 3 times, a 99' 400EX, an 85' 200X, and my 88' Zilla)
How long does a top end rebuild last on a Shee if the bike ONLY sees glamis 5-6 times a year. (thats IT, no other riding)

Any other information is welcome.

ps. There was a guy I was talkin too that had a Banshee that was kickin ***.
it was: Ported, DMC piped, milled head, (race gas) lightened flywheel, 35mm carbs. Completely stock looking. How fun is that!!??

I should turn you into the Zilla police,,,,,,,,,,

I ran a Banshee and traded it for a new Zilla in 89. Never looked back. It takes a highly modded Banshee to slip past my Zilla, and I can still trail ride, never see the Alky Burning, long rod, extended swingarms out past the dragstrip!

Although I have thought about getting a Shee for my wife to ride, they are easy to start!

Pure Blasphemy...

Does your zilla need some motor work? Sounds to me like it does if your not afraid of it?
I absolutley love mine, and will never sell it! I'm with you Truckracer.. never looked back!

Well, the thing is... I wouldnt go ALL OUT like that. I would keep the stock swing arm (I love riding a wheelie over the whoops and half way up the hill under power). I love my LT500, but a Banshee to the tune of the guy I was talkin about sounds very appealing.
(described in my other post) Still duneable, yet REALLY fast.
EDIT: No, the motor is VERY fresh. I would hang with and sometimes beat a guy about 20 lbs heavier than me on a Zilla with 41mm carb, and what he described as "stage 3 or stage 4 motor". He also had 10 paddle. (mine are 8)

My Zilla:

New Main bearing boss's, new Koyo main bearings, piston, rings, bored, honed, stage 2 port & polish, swirled head, new water pump seal, BRAND new 9 plate race clutch, copper head gasket, spring steel base gasket, has nerfs, comes with 4 sand, and 4 dirt tires,
shaved plastic, very clean. Im going to ask $3600. (firm)

Dude!!!! just up the compression and add a bigger carb whilst praying your arms stay attached. If you only go 5 times a year consider alcy. First of all, lt500r is way lighter, second of all the motors have about the same potential so the lighter one can be faster.

Carb seems to be your only bottle neck, dont know your compression but since you dont go much consider bumping it way up.

Just get on ebay and get a bigger carb. Head milling shouldnt be too expensive and im gonna say around 80-200 for the carb depending on what ebay has at the time. I would keep the zilla just ot be diferent. even if you lose every now and then atleast your not a carbon copy.

Well let me update you.... I just did a compression check and the results were about 115psi max after about 2 minutes of hard kicking throttle wide open (engine cold)

Not good, considering how the plug looked (grimed up), the air filter slid back against the pin and opened a gap and it sucked some dirt in.
damnit, now im pissed. The plus side is that when I up the compression ALOT, and bore/replace the carb, ill feel a huge power gain.
It already did quite well at olds hill, so I guess it might be fun when its done.

What size sprocket is optimal for drag racing/hill shooting?

Mr350X,
I thought I saw you either Friday or sat night at Comp, but couldnt find yuou again (your bike is number 23, right?)

As far as the trading of the Zilla for a banshee. GO FOR IT! The banshee potential is unlimited. 87-89 or 90 had the j arms. Dont belive all the hype around the Banshees need for a rebuild, those people simply dont know. I could go on and on, but here are a few examples of banshee motors that have been around for awhile. My co-workers. His is a 95 and he does hardly any maint on his. It sits outside at his property and has never been rebuilt. He went riding last weekend. My friends 96 just got rebuilt for the first time last summer. My 99 was running for three years before I had a rebuild. The trannys are as bullitproof as the motor. Im getting a 70+ HP motor built and I dont have to do anything to the tranny.

I was hoping to get to race you on my buddies banshee that has pipes, milled head, flywheel lightened, timing advnaced, but no porting. His bike runs REAL strong, must have been built on a Wednesday.

Again, Go For it, you wont be dissapointed and i guarentee that you will have made the right decision. Yes the Quadzilla is a great bike, I mean whats not to love about a 500cc two stroke? But as you know, Banshees run the hill like no other and make excellent dune quads.

By the way, I raced 2 Zillas this past week on the Banshee I described above and smoked em. dont be pissed guys, just the facts.

AAAWWW damn man!!!!!! Yes old Ziller is number 23!!!! What a great trip that was, Glamis rocks.

Well, I decided that I am going to go ahead and hang on to my Zilla and see what I can do for it.
My Zilla was doing pretty good at the hill for only having 110-115 PSI compression!!!!!

Im going to rebuild the top end... possibly have it bored out to 510-520, shave the head, new/bore the carb, and replace my twist throttle with a thumb so that I can have some controll over this torque beast. (I hate the twist on my quad)
Ill see what kind of a monster I can create before I sell.

Troy, Let me know when your headin back to glamis. We'll try to hook up.
