OK, SOME POOR LAD BOUGHT MY 01 RAPTOR TONIGHT AND NOW IM READY TO BUY AN 02 L.E. RAPTOR. IVE MADE IT THROUGH THAT BAD EXPERIENCE OF BUYING AN 01 WITHOUT DOING MY HOMEWORK FIRST AND THEN LOSING ABOUT $1300 ON IT. NOT TO MENTION BEING AFRAID OF GOING OVER THE HANDLEBARS. BUT ITS GONE NOW, AND IM GONNA BUY AN 02 AND SLIGHTLY MODIFY IT. ****** POINT**** CAN ANYONE WHO HAS OWNED OR DOES OWN A 02 RAPTOR PLEASE POST ANY PROBLEMS WITH THEIR 02 RAPTORS OR IF THEY ARE COMPLETELY SATISFIED. ID GREATLY APPRECIATE IT, CAUSE THIS PURCHASE SHOULDNT COST ME SO MUCH! THANX

I think that the only problem really left, after you get passed the 2001 tranny, are the starter assemblies. To date, I don't think Yamaha has upgraded this assembly and it needs to be addressed.

Other then that, I can't think of anything.

THANX A MILLION-- IM GLAD TO HEAR THAT THEY ARE WAY BETTER. HECK, A STARTER DOESNT COST AS MUCH AS A TRANNY DOES TO REBUILD!

The only problem I have had is getting out of the house.

I've had my 02 a year now & the only problem was my fault. I bent a tie rod end flipping on a dune. It wasn't bad enough to cost me any riding time though.

Default PROBLEMS WITH THE 02 RAPTORS

I too have had mine since April. I have just found out that box stock with the sand shark 2's and the wierd gearing mine came with, it will only pull second(granted at the rev limiter, and with the front wheels about a foot in the air) up either olds or comp hill at glamis. MIne came with 13 and 38 gearing, soon to be replaced with 12 & 42 and that should cure that, remebering I dont do the bunny slope at either one. It is however scary fast on the top end, starting about 2/3 of the way through 4th and half way through 5th, it is hard to keep straight as the front is so light. I dont know how fast it is as I run out of juevos there. Otherwise its a great ride, with the only problem being I dont get to ride it enough. Since April 10, I only have about 30 hours on it. Time enough for 1 oil change, and check the intake valves. As it has now made the first trip to the dunes, I will sevice it again. Oh almost forgot, it seems that my cooling fan has quit, which I believe is a common occurance, but I dont idle it around anyway, and the test on start for the overtemp light says that it is working so I am not worried about that.

Mine is box stock, and will soon get the k&N and some sort of exhaust changes. I haven't made up my mind yet. I do like quiet, and I do most of my riding where spark arresters are required. I may have 2 exhausts and 2 tuneups. 1 for the dunes, and 1 for everything else. Also, for those running a 12 & 42, how long of a chain should I order?

Enjoy, Ron
