Wolverine Owner Opinions
#11
In reply to that Scrambler 500. I ride with someone who owns one. He is a heavier set guy than me or my brother. My brother and I weigh around 170-180. But either one of us can take him in a drag race. Considering he has no mods on his and niether does my brothers. I have some mods so its not really fair to compare mine. But after racing my brother he was pretty disgusted with his "Purple Peter Eater" as I call it. Anyhow the Wolverine rocks! Thats my opinion on the subject. Thanks everyone out there! Oh and yes we were curious about the weight differential. So they switched quads and raced again.....And it came out with the Wolverine still ahead by inches. I dunno I was baffled by it. He could just have a lemon of a quad too. But as far as im concerned Yamaha rules! =-) Thanks everyone

I have a 99 Wolv. and I love it. I have had my share of problems with it but not anything that I could not fix. That means if I can work on it than they’re pretty easy to maintain I don’t have that much knowledge in mechanics of a 4-wheeler but I’m learning. The Wolv. is great for just about any type of riding you do I took mine last weekend to some trials for the first time. There was all types of trails from muddy soupy trials to hard packed fast trial and it did great I climbed a few hills that were pretty steep too.
The problems that I have had was the rear axle got bent not bad were you could feel it when you where riding or anything but bad enough when someone was behind you they could see it was slightly bent. I finally got them to send me an axle not under warranty but as a good will gesture. I even bought the Y.E.S. (Yamaha. Extended. Service.) waste of about $600.00. Basically I guess they where tired of me calling an complaining so to get me off of there back they just sent me one at no cost. When I went to install it I found there was dirt on the inside of the seals. So after I drained the rear end differential oil I found that water had gotten in the rear end. I went ahead and bought new seals and I asked the dealer about the bearing and they thought that I had caught it early enough that I could take the seals out of the bearing and repack them. I took the bearings out, the left side took me about 2 hours to get out. I went back to the dealer the next day and got new bearings the other ones where pitted from grit and water. The bad thing is that I don’t do much water and mud riding and still had problems so if you do a bunch of mud running stay on top of your service or preventive maintenance schedule. The dealer also told me that Yamaha packs the new bearing but to take them a part and put more grease in there to be on the safe side they don’t put a whole lot of grease in them in the 1st place.
I love my Wolverine but they have a few things like any machine that can be improved upon. Plus there is all kinds of after market bolt-ons to make the Wolverine really growl.
