Reverse light question
#1
The reverse light comes on at high rpm and cuts the motor out. It does not do it all the time though. It just started this past weekend. Who knows the electrical system good enough to have an idea of what is going on? It seems to only do it under load and at high rpm. It is way past the 2000 rpm that the reverse limiter would come in at if it was in reverse. Is this a possible CDI problem? Loose connection?????? Any thoughts on this are more than welcome. Another thought....Is this something that would happen when you hit the high rpm rev limiter? (reverse light comming on)

I've never noticed the reverse light coming on at the high end of the rev limiter. When it comes on does it cut out so bad you can hardly give it any gas at all or does it stay at a high rev and cut out? If it is a low rev then check all your wires coming from the reverse switch and parking break to see if there is any corrosion.

The light comes on at the higher rpm rage but never at the lower rpm range. It just shuts down momentarly and comes back on at the higher rpm. I think that most of the instances it was at 3rd and 4th gear at high rpm. I am not sure abount 2nd gear but I will check.

I would follow the wiring and check all connectors to make sure you don't have mud and grime in any of them. This is usually the cause of most rev limiter problems and or electrical problems is dirty connections.

Thanks, the checks have been made and short of drastic measures we are as far as we can go at this time. The probelm is on 14mins ride and he is now on the way to Iowa to have some fun. I any new ideas are posted here I will passthem on to him to try to solve the problem before tomorrow otherwise he will have to wing it.

check your rev switch that is located under your shifter it has a plug on type connector (not the screw on one) it has a small spring loaded tip on it THAT
From what was said in this conversation it needs to be replaced and once replaced, the problem was cured! I'm not saying this is or isn't the solution, but it's worth a try and seems to have worked for others experiencing that same problem.

I played with the Raptors in the shop and found that you can bypass the reverse limiter switch by unplugging it and grounding the wire to the frame. I was able to duplicate what was happening to 14mins raptor. If the switch is the problem that will be a temp fix for tomorrow. I relayed the info to 14mins on the road so he can make the changes. Thanks again Swytak for the input.
