I am generally new to riding quads and I was wondering if it was bad for the clutch to shift up a gear while under open throdle. I notice alot when people are drag racing they burp the throddle before shifting to the next gear..does it matter?

thanks

100% powershifter here when drag racing. Power shifting is full throttle with use of the clutch when shifting. It is the quickest way to accelerate Bar None.

I jerk the clutch in real fast let to half throttle till im shifted then go WOT and slowly let out on the clutch. Kind a WAAAHHHHHHHHHH wuhWHHHHHAAAAAAAHHHHH, if you take more than 1 second something is very wrong. Just keep riding and it will come naturaly. This is actually way faster than not using the clutch because you get extra acceleration from the clutch slipping. Never shift wide open throttle without the clutch, its bad enough to do it when your not wide open. Only problem I have with all this clutch play is I find myself doing it in my truck when I'm not racing or anything just out of habit cause im always WOT on my quad. Slipping clutch in quad because your trying to powerlside around a corner, doing same thing in your road vehicle bad. Everytime its raining and I come up to a nice 90o corner I have to hold my self and say wait till I get home wait till I get home DARN YOU LIGHT WEIGHT TRUCK WITH 5 SPEED I WONT GO OVER TO THE DARK SIDE NEVER... NEVER... then you granny shift and slowly go around the corner while taking deep breaths. Then you stop reading because jakal is rambling like heck. I dare you to go buy a 94-97 Ranger 5 speed and drive in the rain.... It feels so good to share my pain, I WANT MY ENGINE BACK!!!!!

What you're talking of is called speed shifting as previously stated. Do it if you like, you have to be quick. Keep in mind that if you miss a gear ouch!!. It also puts more strain on the clutch.

I personaly let off the throttle and use the clutch and shift at the same time real fast. I don't miss a beat.

Speed shifting is a tad faster.

I always let slightly off the throttle, 2-strokes wrap too quick.

My newest banshee is currently having that little tranny mod so I don't need to let off or even touch the clutch.
