Raptor Clutch Install-Pics??
#2
Hi Newraptor2000, I have a couple of questions for you. How many hours do you have on your clutch, and what kind of riding do you do? I am trying to get some idea of how long I should expect mine to last with combined desert and dune riding. Mostly desert. I am not that hard on it, but I do use the horsepower. I have had some people tell me that the Yamaha clutch is tough, and others have told me that the cluch is a weak point on the Raptor. Having been a Harley rider for the last 25 years, I dont know what to expect from the little Japper. Also for anyone who knows, if I replace it with a Barnett kevlar will I be able to run a good synthetic oil without self destructing the clutch or other parts? Thanks, Ron.

I bought my Rap Sep-Oct of 2000. I am now just putting my first aftermarket clutch in. IMHO that's pretty darn good. I do alot of desert trail riding and jumping plus some duning. The trails are sometimes technical, but mostly mid fourth and higher. The dunes speak for themselves ( Armagosa, Dumont, Apex, and Logandale). I've been having some problems with a false neutral between 4-5. I know what some of you are thinking(TRANSMISSION!!) but I didn't have the problems till I raised my shifter to accomodate my new boots (AXO RC-5's, I Love Them). Me and the tech at Yamaha believe it's the raising of the shifter on the shaft that with my boots and small feet, sometimes I have a problem raising the shifter high enough to engage fifth but enough to leave fourth. As for the clutch, they lubed and oil changed it and the tech said that the oil had a burnt smell and that I need to think about the clutch. It dosen't need it right now, but I'm going to Glamis for the first time this weekend (24-25 NOV) and want everything perfect.Sorry for the long windedness. Hope that helps.
The moose,
I checked his pic sight and couldn't find anything. I have to PM him. Thanks!!
To All,
Any thoughts and tips (even driving directions) on Glamis are very welcome also!! THANKS
