Maintenance - fan blower on liquid cooled quads
#1
Hopefully a few find this helpful.
From time to time, your fan blower behind the radiator needs to run or it will eventually seize up. If you ride like I do, it never runs. I pretty much start my quad and idle for 2 minutes and then start riding never to stop again more than a minute without shutting the engine off. I never have a problem with overheating because I am moving. This is fine until it is time to put a snow plow on and then the overheating problems start.
The easiest way to maintain this component is to make sure it spins. The easist way to make this happen is to pull the plug from the switch inside the radiator. You will need to jumper the plug with a piece of wire and then turn you ignition key on.
If it doesn't spin, all is not lost. You might be able to salvage it. You will need to remove the blower to gain full working access to it. Spin it by hand until it loosens up. Squirt WD40 on it. Chances are it has a tube coming out of it too. Pull the rubber tube off and squirt a little WD40 in there too.
A new fan blower for the Kodiak lists for $350.
