Default '03 Grizz broken axle

Never heard of the of the rec safety board. I would have been all over that.
I worry when riding in the mountains. Axle breaks and I am trying to stear a 600# Griz down 1000' drop or something like that.
But I will call to register a complaint.
Thanks.

after closer inspection i discovered not just one front broken axle but two broken axles, plus the rear drive shaft. Is this the outboard constant velocity joint? If so this is my second one, same spot too, right by the rear weld.

Do we have a trend here or what. I have never priced the Gorilla shafts but I have a bill for $336 each for the Yamaha's, that I paid for, plus labor. Again, we should not be responsible for repairs that are obviously related to a design flaw or poor workmanship/materials. We paid for that to be accepatable at the time of purchase. As read somewhere in this forum, you can not expect to sue Yamaha or any other entity for millions just because the product did not perform. They are to have an opportunity to make it right or refund you, or whatever is specified in the warranty papers. Afraid to check the rear cv joints. For all of you out there with this problem, I will post later the phone number and name to the Yamaha rep that helped me. Also, the number to the Safety Board is in your safety riding tips book that came with your bike. It is located in California and it is not a toll free number. I do not have this papers with me right now but will post info later today. Remember to be courteous to the rep. He is doing his best to keep us happy and your chances of an amicable resolution are better.

And to you, Yamaha rep. reading all this, put yourself in our position and see what would you do! If we were able to fix the Hubble, if Mazda was able to build a wankel engine that worked when even Mercedes Benz could not do it,if Ferrari F1 engines can spin at 15000 rpm without sending shrapnel all over creation every time they are out, you guys can come up with a PERMANENT fix for this problem. Either that or you will be in the same category as British electrical systems and oil leaks, BMW self re-boring 740i engines and YAMAHA HPDI'S that self destruct in less than 60 hrs. (because high octane gas, high performance synthetic TCW-3 and no Ring free was used plus the boat was not ran hard enough???? ) No more excuses, give it to us straight, is the least you can do.

Here is the info and remember, you are concerned about potential safety issues with this bike:
ATV Safety Institute
A div. of the Specialty Vehicle Inst. of America
2 Jenner St, Suite 150
Irvine, CA 92618-3806
www.atvsafety.org
949 727-3727

Yamaha Representative : Brad Franklin 714 761-7842

The info on the cpsc site is elsewhere on this string. Just go to it and fill out the info requested. Remember to have your serial number available. Mention the number of shafts broken so far and the inability to steer when the frt. ones go, besides the potential of being stuck out in the boonies at a bad time.

KEEP ALL YOUR RECEIPTS. Once a recall is established, you might be able to obtain a refund for the related repairs. That is what VW did on the Mass Flow Sensor and window problem recalls. Hey, it does not mean we do not like the bike, we just want it to perform as expected.

Gorillia's $1600.00 for all four. Not from this cat. I will trade the machine in for that and have at the warranty system again. i am in for the long haul on this. i had Polaris before my griz and it had small problems i took care of my self. I bought the first axle @ $287.00 and installed it my self. by the second one I knew that it was nothing i had done to the machine. I have not read where the 04 griz is having any problems. Is it just the 03 machines? I take care of my machine, it breaks i fix it, whatever it is. The owners' wife was arguing with me when i was loading the griz, she thought i was taking a new one. I think that is part of the problem they see so many abused machines that were "just riding down the trail" when they broke that they assume everyone abuses their machines. 26 years of riding bikes and four-wheelrs. I know when a machine is being abused. This Griz has had a charmed life. The diff lock is only when I can't get around using it. Dif lock four times = 2- broken shafts.
Yamaha had a problem and they chose to fix the squeeky wheels and ignor the rest. It is cheaper for them.
