how does N20 work? (nos)
#11
I twisted a line off (my buddy said the bottle valve was off. I'll never trust anyone again) and I was sprayed in the face with N2O. Took me quite a few minutes to stop stumbling around. Painful high.
Please remember, Nitrous Oxide (N2O) IS NOT Nitrous Oxide Systems (NOS). NOS is just a company that makes systems. Nitrous Express (NX), Zex, edelbrock, Nitrous Works, are also brands.

The nitrous they use in the doctor's office and the nitrous you use for performance is different. The stuff the doc uses is medically pure N2O, the performance type has a lot of sulfur in it so you can smell it if it is leaking. If you inhale to much of it, it will kill you. There is a nice warning on the bottle about it.

Just curious (I'm not into breathing the stuff so, lol) what is the bigest shot you guys have tries on your Raptors?
And.......of the guys using it on the Rap, are any of you guys using a dual stage system?

i know someone that has used a 50 shot on a stock compression i don't think he had any problems. i have had it jetted to a 30 shot without any problems when i am running alky,(its more forgiving) i tried a 40 shot when i was on race gas and it melted the plug in about 75 ft

Now that I think of it,
Not to mention that you would need a regulator to do that anyway. Assuming you did have medically pure N2O, and also assuming that you didn't take it straight from the bottle (way too much pressure), it would come out around 120 degrees below zero. That'll freeze your lungs solid in one breath. Also it is not to be confused with NO or Nitric Oxide. A couple of kids stole some of this stuff from a gas dealer around here several years back. There was a big stink about it on the news.
Also, canned whip cream has (or used to have) N2O as a propellant.
In short say away from the stuff inhalant wise.

To answer the original question, the way nitrous works is the nitrogen part super cools the incoming fuel/air mix, making it very dense, then the oxygen aids in burning hotter, which requires an extra fuel supply to richen up the dense mix so the extra oxygen doesn't burn the piston with the extra combustion heat. It's basically like being able to put 2-3 times the normal fuel charge in the same area,so you don't want to be running a high compression piston, stock or slightly under stock is what a lot of car racers use, should be the same principle for quad engines. When this super dense fuel mix is ignited, the extra oxygen makes it burn quick and hot, and you get the kick in the pants burst of power to the rear wheels (if your tranny holds together!!)

whatwasthat, Yeah I know. Holley now owns just about everything in the automotive performance world. Holley (carbs, intakes, heads), NOS, Lunati (cams/cranks/rods, pistons, valves), Weiand (intakes/water pumps), Hooker (headers/exhaust), Flowtech (cheap headers/exhaust), Earl's (plumbing), etc. Knowing that, you must be into auto performance.
In case you care, my '68 ford truck (the one with the 521BB stroker) has a Holley Dominator carb with C&S modification, Weiand water pump, Hooker mufflers (so much better than Flowmaster), and some Earls fittings. The Dom carb can't be beat so it is staying and I love the Aero chamber mufflers. The Weiand water pump is being changed for a CSI though. Lunati is just over rated. I run a billet Scat crank, Oliver rods, JE pistons, and a custom ground billet cam/billet solid roller lifters. FRPP/Motorsport intake made by Edelbrock. FRPP SCJ heads. 2.25/1.76 Manley special race valves, Comp springs/retainers/pushrods/guideplates. FRPP roller rockers. All ARP bolts and studs. Custom windage tray. Basically, the only two things that aren't aftermarket are the D1VE (stock '71 Ford) block and the timing cover (which isn't offered aftermarket). 800-850hp on pump gas/additive depending on timing and other things. Electric Perma-cool fan, Electric driven water pump, and one HUGE alternator. I have picture of my old iron head stroker but I am trying to get pictures of the new one. Check my page in a couple weeks.

That link Chet put up was VERY informative, thanks Chet.
I don't have very much expeirance with N2O at all so I have a question or two.
1: What is the differance in a fogger and..... what ever the other system is?
2: Which one is better and why? or is that to specific?
3: Why is lower compression better for N2O?
I have seen "fogger" nozzles and the jet in a plate system but have done anything but seen them.
4: I forgot this one, AlkyX don't you want to trade your Ford for a 96' S-10 with 200,000 miles on it, you know for better gas mileage?
