when did it happen? Did it lock up or just not move anymore except in reverse? Sorry to hear about it but it is an easy fix.

My JY4*********00777 is still working fine. This could be bad for me to say it though. We ride the guts out of it too. I should be counting down the life of it. I have repaired a couple now and had some work done on the gears to see how they hould up. I thought I would see what would happen with stock gears at $70.00 plus a few other small things instead of spending 400 to 900. I spent about $200 total because I replaced all the forks, clips, washers and o-rings. It was still cheap. 14mins and my son's seem to be holding up for now. Wshrdskin, If you have the book and tools it really is not that hard to do. If I can be of any help let me know.

for parts, to swap to 02 gears your numbers are the minumum. Not counting labor if you do it yourself

It happened Saturday Nov 30th. Was cruising in 2nd gear. It popped out of 2nd gear and then 2nd gear was never to be found again. It still has 1st, 3-5th and reverse.

I don't have all the tools needed. I do have a manual. But I don't feel at all comfortable tearing it down that far. I'm calling Trinity today as well as Alba and my local dealer to get prices and turn around times. If Trinity is the winner I may just have them port my head and install a Piston/Cam while there.

airraptor..he didnt swap over to 02 gears. He replaced the bad 01 gears, shift forks, washers etc etc. Thats why it was half the price.

Does anyone know how many 01 raptors were built? My best guess would be 25,000.

Out of that number I wonder what the percentage of failure is?

I am not sure on the average cost to do the switch over but if Yamaha would fix and reimburse failed trans owners that would be in the range of 25,000,000 million.

I can see why they are stalling. You can pay a lawyer to beat the bushes for a long time before paying that out.

Airraptor, RcR is right, I went back with the stock gears because we like the ratios for what we do better than the 02 ratios. The bad 01 stock gears that need to be replaced cost about 70 for both.
