I need some engine help here
I think I blew the engine on my wolverine. Does anyone know by the sound of this what i did? I know these engines are hard to blow but I ran the thing as hard as it would possibly go in every gear for i dont know how long. After a long period of holding it open (I was on the highway so there was plenty of room) I eased up because there was a van in front of me and was angered and had been passing cars and going top speed the whole time but i had eased up because of the van and we were going down this hill and at the bottom of the hill there is a long straight and i started when i was on the base of the hill and downshifted to 4th and pinned it and caught 5th and passed the van, i held it at top speed and was losing the van down the straight, about 200yds of being revved to the max, my throttle stared cutting out. It started slowing down quickly and then locked up at approx. 40-45mph it skidded to a stop and i quickly got it off the road. It was acting like it ran out of gas the way the throttle was behaving but i know this wasnt the case becuase it seemed to make a funny noise when it was cutting out and there is atleast 1/4 tank of gas left. I shifted it into neutral and hit the start button to see what would happen and if maybe it would start, but it made that noise the starter makes when you accidentally hit the start button when its already started, (that spinning noise) and the motor wouldnt turn over at all, just a spin noise and the battery noise where it turn the starter. Can anyone help me with what to do. I am pretty sure its had it and im gonna have to rebuild but could there be another problem? I was later told be the driver of the van that he was diong right at almost 50mph when i passed him in 4th gear and was leaving him down the straight.

Ok,
First of all Why were you on the highway???? no offense but thats kinda dumb and even if there were no cops its not a good idea to trust any atv not have to problems. I ride on the road but not the highway, i mean come on, and passing cars???? Second, I dont know how the wolverine starter assembly works but if its like the warrior and the raptor, and uses that starter clutch, it almost sound like if its just spinning that its not working. Third, i dont think 200yrds at a high speed can cause it to overheat, It wont typicly overheat unless it is being ran hard with no air running through it. I want u to consider this also, for some reason if you run my warrior about 3/4 a mile wide open in 6th after while it will sputter and if you dont back off it will die and wont start as far as i can tell i run the float bowl outa fuel because as soon as it dies if i cut the fuel off then try to drain the bowl there isnt any. I replaced the fuel line and such but as long as i run it just under wide open i dont run it out, but unless im on the road for some reason its never been a problem. But do what jackle said try to turn it over by hand if not im afraid its prolly siezed, Sorry for the long post kinda rambled on there but there u go.

Yeah i know about the riding on the highway thing but i lost my temper and really didnt care, i can handle the riding on the road part as long as the bike can. There really isnt alot of traffic where i live so its not as bad as you think. You misunderstood me, i was running it really hard for i believe something like 6 miles down the road, its a curvy road so im mean im not tapped out the whole way, i let up after a curve on this hill and then at the bottom on the straight passed the van and about 200yds after that she died. The guy in the van actually found it quite funny i dont know why though. I know what you mean about that carburetion thing, mine does that too where you just let off for a sec and then hit it agian and its fine, this was different though, it started kinda like that but then fell on its face and locked up. Ill try to see if it will turn over with a wrench thanks for the help.

Well I tore the engine down to find that the valves are at fault. They siezed up, causing the piston to lock up in the cylinder and then causing everything else to lock up. To my surprise the only damage that was done was done to the valves. I was expecting cylinder and piston damage. The piston does have a high amount of carbon on it but its still usable and the cylinder is untouched. Im thinking since I have it apart to go ahead and run a high compression piston and port and polish the head. Any other suggestions for more hp that doesnt cost an arm or a leg but is maybe easy to do since I have it apart. Also what kind of hp will this give me? Your help is greatly appreciated.
