Default Is Engine Reliable after HOTCAM Stage 1 Put In!!!!

I received an e-mail from Hot Cams today that stated a more sluggish and less responsive Raptor was the result of using the Stage 1 and the timing advance. I will post the entire message tomorrow.....Shockwave, get the key out...or turn it around (this is what I done...not recommended...lol).

We havent ran it since putting the cam in. I havent had it running a week and the tracks are shut down around here in North Carolina for winter. I cant tell much difference with the cam but will test at the track in spring.

Thanks Gary. I called Hot Cams Tech dept Monday and told them that my revs seemed no better and if anything sluggish. I asked them if they had any info on the advance key and the cam. They told me that they tested only with it straight up. They may be going by what I told them for feedback. Have you tried it both ways? I am going to take mine out his weekend too. Anytime you advance on the bottom with a four stroke, I feel like it might rob off the top. I want top. I may have hurt my combination, If so I will remove the cam. I will take my advance key out and let you know what it feels like anyway. I also have a comparison raptor to run against.
Thanks

My ? = Tony, will a timing advance key work with the Stage 1 cam?
Answer = Simply stated, No!
My next ? = Do you see a cylinder pressure problem (detonation) or actually a drop in power? Thanks for the time.
ANswer = It runs poorly. Doesn't like to rev cleanly, soft throttle response. Our cams have a different lobe center than the OE, so it doesn't respond good to that tweak.

I have'nt tried using the advance key. Sounds like the advance key with the hot cam has too much timing.....probably down on power everywhere.

I just got off the phone with Tony at Hot Cams and he said he is going by the feedback that me,you and any others may have gave him. I will take my key out this weekend and see how it does and let everyone know. He told me to call him back and let him know how it responds because they havent tried it both ways and need the feedback. ( I called him Monday and told him it seemed sluggish and slower reving) but by no means slower. Just different power curve and torque at diferent places. I think its faster but havent proved it at the track yet. The tracks are closed around here but we have a comparison drag bike Raptor to run against and see the change.
I will post Sat night when finished testing.

How many degree differance is the key? Could you turn it around and retard the timing? Where advancing it gives you bottom retarding it should give you more top.

Its a six degree offered by Curtis Sparks. Yes, If you reversed it, it would retard 6 degrees and retarding a little would help top but not six degrees. That would be too much I think. Im going to remove mine this weekend and go straight up. Advancing usually gives bottom and loses a little top. Retarding gives a little top with some loss of bottom. Providing the cams are ground like that. I will find out this weekend how it changes things and post results.
