What kind of brake pad and disk life should I expect from my kodiak? The disk already have grooves worn in them but they seem to work fine. When I come out the mud I can hear them scratching. Is this normal?

Your brakes are probably all ready worn out.
I have had to put two sets on the back all ready not including the stock set. They last about 1500km (for me anyway). This time I am getting the ebc heavy duty ones I hope the last a little longer. Disk stop better than drum but I guess you have to pay for it.

My brakes wore out rather quickly I thought also but with disc I guess that is to be expected. I did do alot of mud/snow riding. Next time I will get the ebc severe service.Just did the Cochranton, Pa. ride and it was awsome. I hear they might limit it to 4000 quads next year though.
