My tranny went the other day, it didnt sound pretty and I dont have it apart yet. Can you tell me what happened to your 01 tranny, like a broken dog got caught up? what you were doing when it went, what gear?

Mine locked but had no other real symptons, I had 2nd gear up until it went at the top of a hill I had just climbed and I wasnt shifting just lugging a little.

I was putting through a wash over Turkey day weekend. It popped out of 2nd gear and was never to be found again. I had 1st, 3rd-5th and reverse just not second. I had to ride it back to camp so I'm sure I didn't help myself any by doing that. I have all my old parts and from the looks of my manual and how the gears go together best I can tell anyway. All 3 dogs were broken off the 4th gear wheel. That gear locks in with 2nd gear wheel thus the reason I had no second gear. The left shift fork is all scratched and grooved up, the other two look to be ok but they replaced them anyway.

Hopefuly you are knowledgeable enough to do the work yourself and save on the labor charges. I have another 01 Raptor that I am sure will need a tranny replaced one day. I'm seriously considering doing it myself. Heck if I had to buy any tools to get it done it would still be cheaper than paying for labor. The service manual is not detailed enough to get me through it, but once opened up, I'll be able to see how things go together, It should be doable. Hopefuly I won't have to but. Yes,

Just the cost of the parts. I already had the Cam, I bought the piston from where I had the work done. There was no extra labor charge since they had to put back in the old stuff anyway had I not upgraded.

Congrats man!! Let us know how you like the "new found power" once you have it broke in properly. I guarantee that you will be impressed! Are you "topless" on your airbox? If not, give it a try, that cam BEGS for more intake!

Keep us informed BO!

Yes, Eraptoid, been topless since I bought a pipe several months back.

I'm 11:1 JE piston, Hotcam stage 1, Pro design flange and K&n filter with outerwear, Dyno jets 150/155, no lid, Alba complete pipe kit, 18 disks (12 is what they sell with pipe)

Can't wait till I can open her up and see what I've got. Looking forward to that day. Hope to get in some more break in time after work a couple days this week.

THats the same thing mine done...wanna know why it happenned? REVERSE! So you have the 4th gear wheel dogs? How many are rounded? This happenns when reverse is dis-engaged......4th gear wheel disengages reverse, and moves back too the gearset....locking in....or in the 01 Raptor's case, GRINDING IN.
All 01 Raptors that have reverse used WILL FAIL.
