Do you need a PRO Design Air Filter to run with NO Lid!!!
#1
I have pro flow kit already and need to know if you guy's are set up with the k&N proflow and if they told you (mechanic)that you needed to run a pro design air filter because of the air filter might fall off, dirt might get into it because it's not sealed as good and he said it's like running with no filter..Need some opinons Please,,,P>S I went to the Yamaha dealer and they wanted to charge me 180 fo labor just to put on a new jet kit and the pro design filter,They wanted to charge me 180 for the pro design set up itself...

You don't need a lid with the pro design set-up....the stock filter is held in place by the air box lid, without the lid a stock filter will not work properly...you can however cut the bulk of the top out to create an open air-box while still retaining the ability to hold the filter correctly. Sound a bit pricy for instalation of those parts, shouldn't bee more than 2hours labor....most raptor owners have this jetting dissasembly down to a science with some tricks and helpfull hints jetting can be done inside an hour(correctll)...call around for better pricing...if you have any mech ability I think you can acomplish this yourself...save your money and get a hooker

WELL I GUESS I DONT HAVE THE PRO DESIGN BUT I STILL HAVE A K&N FILTER,bUT NOT THE ONE WITH THE BILLET PART HOLDING THE FILTER ON!i ALSO HAVE A BUDDY THAT WILL DO IT FOR ME ,HE HAS JETTED HIS BIKE ,bUT WHEN I TAKE IT TO A YAMAHA DEALER THEY MAKE IT SOUND LIKE A SCIENTFIC THING THEY DO TO FIND OUT THE BEST JETS TO RUN WITH MY PIPE(YOSHIMURA)...Id rather do it myself but the way they made it sound scared me to even attempt it..Do they put the bike on a machine that tells you the best jet sizes or from mear experience,They want to charge me 75 for the jetting and 25 for the pro design filter to be set up(JMg Motosports not yamaha)..let me know what you think... P.S my friend has been a mechanic for years and does all his work on his raptor..

I have the stock fliter holder with a K&N on it with no lid. You don't need a proflow just mount you filter
in like your going to put your lid on and drill a hole on the top and put a bolt through it. The filter is held in place at the bottom and the bolt holes it on top.. I have had it like this for years between my banshee and raptor. The banshee you bolt it on the sides

is my K&N filter the same as the pro design ,just without the billet holder,Thanks for the advice i will try it when i get the work done,Makes sense though,I think he was trying to make some money.....The filter is hard enough to pull up so i dident think i needed it,also the filter will not move forward just up and down because of the slots it falls into keep it in place, would it be better to keep the lid on and cut the top away from the airbox or remove the whole airbox and drill the hole and put the bolt to hold the filter on..Thanks
