KODIAK's PLUGS Breaking My Budget
Since I purchased '01 Kodiak, have logged just over 600 miles. Am having to replace spark plug every 50-75 miles. Plugs appear very black with some residue on them. Machine will be running fine & then starts acting up. Sometimes I can clear it out; sometimes not! Purchasing dealer tech says he has no idea what's goin on here. Anyone with similar problems? Solution??

Does it run differently if you are using the choke versus not using it? I would imagine it doesn't make a difference. Sounds like your choke cable is corroded where it connects into the carb. Most likely the spring is eaten away.
Buy yourself a new choke cable and a new plunger that will come with the spring. I bet this will fix your problem.

Here is a link to a diagram. Look at #21. I just cleaned mine up and bought a stainless steel spring from the hardware store. I had to cut the spring to fit.

warrior007 is correct. There is a new cable (PartNumber for upgraded cable for the '00-'01 Kodiak..5GH-26331-02-00) that is supposed to stop water from getting into the cable and running down to the carb and rusting the spring out.
