the message title pretty much sums up what i want to know but if anyone has ideas on race fuel or maximum octane that is safe i would appreciate the info.i get to take my 686 out for its first ride next weekend .it sure is going to be hard to not really go for it until after break in but i know the consequences of not doing a proper break in so i guess i will just have to be patient.i would also like some opinions on very high quality and durable chains as i will need one after i extend the swingarm.

91 or 92 will work just fine.

I run the 520 DID o-ring and it seems to work just fine. Just don't like cleaning sand out of it !

i guess i should be more specific about the octane rating question because what i am wondering is if it is possible to do engine damage with too high of a rating.also is their any real gain in horsepower with the higher octanes and the 11:1 compression?

The lowest octane raiting you can use without detination will give you the most HP. The lower the # the more volotile, and faster it burns which = more HP.

I need a new chain too, non o-ring for me though.

I am with you Ward. O-ring chains suck! They aren't worth the extra money. Dirt, sand, etc gets in between the links and grinds away the rubber o-ring. Personally, I run EK chains on all of my bikes. I like the Super Sport chain, but you can only get it in 120 links. The gold links look good though. Kind of pricey at $60. Motul makes the most awesome chain lube.
