Default 2003 Yamaha 660R Raptor vs. 2003 Suzuki QuadSport Z400

I am 18. My height is about 5'10 (I think). My weight is about 55 kg.

I have never ridden a ATV before.

By the way, I just went to the Suzuki forums and read a lot about the Yamaha 660R Raptor not being comfortable and that the handling is no where near the Suzuki QuadSport Z400. Is this true?

I ride a KFX400 (Same Quad as a Z400), if all you are looking for is a Dune (Sand) runner, even I would go with the Raptor. Sand robs power, and so haveing a surplus of power, which the Raptor has is a definate plus. You need to start out slow, don't try to rotate the earth. The Raptor is a little top heavy (Speaking from experiance, I have ridden both quads a fair amount). A set of wheel spacers can help that out. The Z400 is light and nimble, and the handeling is top notch. The shifting of the trany & clutch action is smooth and precise.

You would be happy with either quad (Being your first), just be safe.

each forum is gonna have different opinions about each quad. if you can, just go test ride the 2 and get the one you like the best.

Thanks.

However, I will be doing some riding on the streets.

How is the shifting and clutch of the Yamaha?

OHHH take my advise, you DON'T want to go there, you will be reading this form and all of the oppinions for the nexy 7 to 10 days. If you want to read about a shootout between the 2 bikes look at the September 2002 Dirt Wheels. Just realize that the results are subject to Oppinion (Not always good). But they give you a lot of usable facts.

Good Luck.

The raptor handels as good as the rider can ride it,so if you complaining about the handeling your probabley not a good rider, Woods, trails,Desert,Sand ,My raptor rips thru all of this stuff, much faster than a 400!!!!!!!660R

He's a brand NEW rider!!! Be responsible and don't give him the idea that your riding ability dictates how he would be able to ride either Quad, it would be hard for him to be as good as you.

you could also go to your local dealer and see who have most of the after market parts or oem parts, so if something breaks you dont have to wait weeks before you get your parts, this way you will enjoy the raptor or the z400.
