I really think the problem is linked to the down shifting from 2nd to 1st. The ratios seem to exert too much force for the dogs on the gear to hold up. Both times my son's 01 failed it was in a down shifting scenario.

When mine was apprx. 6 months old, it seemed(to me) to have a very slight slip, had the dealer look at it while replacing a shock, starter gears and seat cover and they couldn't feel it.(it only did it periodically)
Well the conclusion is..........went riding today, and it is definitely bad now.....grab 2nd gear and it will slip, lurch, almost as if the chain was super loose and jumping teeth on the sprocket...NOT THE CASE HERE..........anyway, I am gonna get a hold of the dealer 1st thing tuesday morning...............Maybe for a late christmas present they will go ahead and replace them with the 02' gears.
