Default sick wolverine

Hopefully some of you wolverine owners can help me out. I have several problems going on, maybe they are not even related.

I have a 2001 Wolverine. I had on a White Brothers Pro Meg silencer, jet kit, and air box lid open.

The last time I went riding (pretty hard on it) It killed on me. When I started it back up, whenever I pushed the throttle past 1/4 it would kill again. I kept it in 1st gear under 1/4 throttle and limped back to the campground. About ten minutes into heading back, it would be fine again. Then it would be okay for a bit, then act up again.

I put it back to stock, except the jet kit. I took it for a short ride yesterday, and it was fine for about an hour, then did it again. I also noticed the differential oil coming out of the vent tubes by the snorkel. Is this related or is it something separate?

The ideas I have recieved were: Parking brake faulty, clogged main jet, messed up top-end, or needs a valve adjustment (I have never had one). The oil has been changed regularly.

The main concern I have is that a buddies Warrior did the same thing 3 months before he blew a piston!

thanks for the help

One other thing, when it started to act up, if I pulled the choke all the way out it ran better. This would lead me to believe its a carb/jetting problem.

Also, what jet sizes should I be set on. I have a White Bros Pro Meg with 12 discs in it. I had the k & n jet kit put it a long time ago, but was never properly dialed in.

I can't really help with the jets but I would check the parking brake first that is the easy fix. Here is a tip for you if you want to know what caused the problem only fix one problem at a time don't try to tear the whole bike apart first and then try to decide what was the problem. And get your valves adjusted I have mine adjusted every 6 months.

hey, not sure about that. I had a problem with mine, took it to the dealer, didn't fix it, took it back, said it was the CDI box, then said that didn't do it (what a supprise they still charged me for the new CDI), but anyways they said it was some little part, did it again, I got frustrated and didn't ride it for a week or two, rode it and never had a problem since. it was all stock at that time though. When it's running well I'd run a plug run and make sure your jetting isn't too lean. don't want to siez that piston up with a lean mixture. especally if you say the choke (richer) makes it run better. just a sugestion

I'll tell you what i would do and it cant hurt the situation is take off you carburetor and take it apart and clean it, the needle and all that suff, then flush out your fuel lines just to be sure. Then drain your gas tank and check the fuel petcock just to be sure, it could even be some bad gas, that happens. This way you will know yourself if its fuel related, if its not well then id start talking to someone who knows engines but im pretty sure you're ok. Mine has done that where the diff. oil comes out in the airbox or snorkle. You may also need to change or add some diff. oil. Have fun with it.

There is a vent tube on a wolv that comes up by the steering stem at the base of the handlebars. It vents the carb. You sucked junk in through that tube. Take the carb bowl off and clean it and make sure the tube is clean too. Then put a small filter on the tube so that you can't suck crud in there anymore.

Its funny but this problem comes up allmost once a day on this forum, its definitely the parking brake.

I had my friends wolverine's carb out 3 times along the marienville trail trying to figure out what was wrong with his (same EXACT problem) Cleaned the **** out of it and reinstalled, still nothing, took it back out and checked the needle and cv stuff, reinstalled still nothing, went and took the carb back out and checked the float level, this time the bowl screws stripped and we used a rock to pound the screwdriver in and get some bite on the screw. When we turned the carb over we found we had crushed the plastic cap that seals the vaccuum in. We JB welded that back together and reinstalled, still no different. A stranger out of nowhere came along asked what the problem was, we told him - he reached over (still on his quad) and pushed the parking brake forward and it revved to the moon. Who was that masked man!?

Warriors and raptors have the same thing, little sensor up on the clutch perch. You can disconnect it if you want

The parking break will make the engine stumble badly. Its easy to test by unplugging the sensor on the brake lever.

I hope you can tell but this is what dbeck was talking about with the vent hose from the carb. I think correct me if I am wrong dbeck.
