Banshee clutch questions
#1
How would i be able to tell if my clutch was going? All i know is that it lets out really late and it seems to slip a little.
Is a "clutch kit" all you need to rplace your clutch, or do you need a basket too?
Whats the best aftermarket clutch that you can buy for a banshee.

You can tell that your clutch is starting to slip if your bike is twisting up pretty good but you dont seem to go very far very fast. Best thing to do is take your clutches out and measure them. Im not sure what the OEM recomended minimum is but its not hard to measure. Second check to see if your steels are glazed over or blue. If they are scuff them up on some sand paper or sand blast them (the steels). A clutch kit is all you need. Usually only the fibers are what need to be replaced. You dont need to replace the basket unless there are substantial grooves in the ears of the basket. Hinson makes an awesome billet basket if your wanting to drop a few bucks (200) on a reliable clutch. If your basket goes it wont be pretty.

On a good running banshee it can be hard to tell if your clutch is slipping because most will spin the tires. The best way to tell is get on pavement or other surface that your won't spin on. Start ripping through the gears. When you shift, it should snap into gear. If when you let off the clutch after shifting, it revs up some and then feels like the clutch grabs and drops engine rpms, chances are your clutch is going. Usually, the more expensive factory fibers and plates are recommended over aftermarket. It too feel that factory is the way to go. Since it sounds like you have a pretty healthy banshee there, I would swap the clutch springs out for YZ490 pieces (little trick that helps). While you are there, I would also change the following things: Put stainless allen bolts in the cover (you will strip half of the stock phillips taking it off), put in a pro-design water pump impeller, and modify your shift star (pm me if you don't know what I mean). Also, when you put it back together make sure you use a quality 2-stroke motorcycle tranny fluid such as my favorite Belray's Gear Saver. Running any other type of oil will make your clutch stick and reduce their life. Another thing, you will have to drain the coolant so replace it with Engine Ice. This stuff really lives up to the hype.

Thanks for the info guys. I will go on some pavement and slam trough the gears and see whats going on. I am going to tear my quad down to the frame and get it powdercoated. When i am doing that i will also be doing the topend, so i might as well do the clutch too if it is bad.
AlkyBurninX, i got a few questions so i will PM you.
