Default 400 Kodiak is slow

I have a 2001 Kodiak and I am not at all happy with the low end or high end speed. It has 600 miles on it but it hasn't been tuned up since the initial 100 mile service. I just ordered 26" Mudlites for all corners because I heard they were not much heavier than stock and I don't want to make it any slower.

What mods can I add that will really give me some bang for my buck. Is a pipe and air filter really noticalble. Also, how about a clutch kit, does it make a real difference. I would hate to spend a bunch of money and then not be happy with the outcome.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Al

Call Mickey Dunlap at Four Stroke Tech. He has built many of these for GNC/GNCC riders.

My Kodiak goes 92km/h (57.5mph) i consider that quick. The clutch also engages imediately off idle, so if you're complaining about its power than i think you are in the wrong category of atv's, because it is the same, or better than any other quad in its class. Mabey a big bore would have suited you better?

My Kodiak only goes 40MPH. The lag off the line is about a second or 2. Maybe there's something wrong with mine.

I had two 2001 Kodiak 4X4s that were totally stock. Both would go 53+ mph.

If yours only does 40mph, than yes, something is wrong!! It also has zero lag time. I'm guessing you need a new belt?

Mine did 57mph, slightly downhill, bone stock (including tires) but it's a 2WD, so it'll go a little faster.

That would really be lousy. It only has 600 miles on it. Do you know how much a new belt costs?

Not saying it is the belt, but i hear they cost a lot!!! By a lot i mean over $100 (canadian)

Mine also pulss hard (for a 400) all the way to about 40mph, on top it doesn't have much punch, but i don't think any 400cc quad does. It will eat a 450 for lunch in a drag race, and a sp400, p360...... most all competetors.

Something is seriously wrong with your bike!! Does it run fine? idle? mabey there's a defect in the clutch?
