Default Cleaning the quad

What do you guys/gals clean your bikes with and wax them with? What works the best for you? Anyone heard of spraying wd40 on the entire bike and wiping it in? Some local racers say they do it and dirt and mud fall right off. Thanks for your input..

i use a spray called mean grean, and use a spunge, after she dries, i use pledge, and it gives off a great shine, then i just sit there and look at it wondering when i can ride it again.

after i finish riding...i wash my quad with tide and water...then after drying, i wipe it down with armorall and this keeps it shining as well as keeping any mudd from sticking to the quad...have fun cleaning...

i use simple green diluted with water in a spray bottle, and hose off. towel dry, and then mequiars gold class car wax. looks awesome. not much mud here...
and if you go easy on the sinple green mixture, it wont take the wax off.

last time i washed my raptor it seemed as if i was in antarctica, it was COLD. i sprayed the raptor down with water and sprayed the concentrated degreaser (mean green or something similar) straight from the bottle on everything and sprayed off, then dryed with a chamois cloth. took about 20 minutes or so but it looked as good as when i use dishwashing liquid and water and spend about 1 HR+ on washing it.

i know its not a good idea to use the mean green w/o diluting it w/ water. what could be some of the consequences??? i did this once before a long time ago when i was in a rush but it was diluted and i left it on too long(only sprayed metal parts) and it looked like it ate up the gas cover thing that tells the position of the gas, whether it's on or off. but i took something and sanded the corrosion or whatever off, can't remember the name but it was like a square spongy material my brother is sanding his frame with.

it's also not a good idea to use dishwashing liquid to wash your car, and probably not an atv, it's suppose to make the paint dull over time, probably not too good for clear coat. but it makes a lot more suds than the stuff that is a concentrated liquid designed for washing a car. I've been told that if you wash your atv w/ a cloth it will make the plastic dull, the color will not lighten if you spray the atv and use some kind of diluted spray on cleaner.

simple green or castrol super clean will ruin the looks of your aluminum at full strength. it's a compound salt. just make sure you get it right off, or it'll get underr the coating. it looks terrible. i saw a guy clean his intake manifold on his PU one time. he brought the stuff back mad as hell, wanted me to buy him a new intake. it says right on the bottle to not use full strength on aluminum. suggested he have the manifold powder coated. hehe

ive tried multiple products and procedures...this is what i do..regardless of mud or MX mix (almost concrete...just missing the calcium):

1) hose of heavy dirt/mud
2) coat entire quad with simple green(uncut/undiluded)..avoid lerks and ball joints...seals.
3) wait 10-15 minutes and hose off...removes everything including film.
4) towel dry
5) Coat entire quad with Honda-Brite.
6) spray entire chain with WD40 and lightly scrub with tooth brush (inspect all o-rings)
7) rinse with water
8) Towel dry
9) recoat with PJ1 chain wax

every 5th ride..i grease all zerks and change oil
every season i lube the cables

before riding i bust out the honda-brite and recoat the entire quad (same effect as WD40).

i also keep spare air filter oiled (no-toil) up and ready to swap in a zip lock bag.

simple green will dull the aluminum...but i polish once a month anyways...with a metal polish from honda...the ease of rinsing everything off outways the dulling of the aluminum i'm gonna polish anyways.

will the simple green or similar at full concentration have any kind of affect on my black plastic?????

how often should i grease the zerks???

i've had my quad for like 3 months, its my first, and i have changed the oil once, after broken in, but i have never changed my oil filter. $14 for a stock oil filter is BS. and my local shop doesn't offer any K&N oil filters. I plan on buying one of the scott's reusable oil filter's for $95 shipped. will not changin my oil filter in 3 months harm my machine???? also, what happen's if I overfill my machine w/ oil??

sorry a couple of these questions are off topic, but i just need to know, thx.

so buy a k&n online for $10. lots of folks do. or you can use an ac delco, tho i'll have to go out to the shed and get the number off it.
if you change your oil often and are not nuts with the thing, you dont need a $100 oil filter.
JMHO I cant make my fingers write a check for a $100 oil filter, sorry.
went out and looked, its a pf2057 AC. about $5, and its a little longer than stock.

03RaptorLE,
Well as far as consequences go for sparying degreaser w/o diluting it is not the smartest thing you could do although also not a bad idea if you do it propperly. Anyway i'll get to the consequences now, i sprayed degreser everywhere on my banshee(sold now) plastics and all, i left i for ten or so minutes and sprayed it off when i finished cleaning it the plastics turned white in places and it pealed some paint off.
