This is Marks second 01 tranny, we do not want to put a 02 tranny in it because the gear ratios suck. They will perfect it one day. They had another complete set of gears but did not bring them because we did not consider another failure of the gears so soon.

 

The '02 gear ratio's suck? I thought the general consensus, at least among the magazines, was that the '01 gear ratios sucked and that the '02s were much improved. Isn't the only difference 1st and 2nd? Just wonderin', I need to learn the truth.

He can't ride anyway, so he says, LOL, whats he care about 1st-3rd being geared a bit lower, the rest is the same. I'm actualy faster with my 02 gears in. The 02 ratios DO suck. Run an 01 raptor vs an 02 raptor...and the 01 will win every time. With the 02 you are shifting way too much, and you have to feather the clutch more to keep it going. Kep in mind..we drag race every Sunday at Marks..we arent talking trail riding or anything here. Every tenth of a second counts..and the 02's suck. IMO the 01 ratio's are better for drag. The 02 are way better for trails.

That sucks for 14 I hope he gets something going while he's there.

 

This is the first that I've ever heard of the '02 gears being inferior... that just doesn't make any sense... zero claims for '02-up tranny failures as far as I know...
